I used defraggler. But this one is truly faster and does a better job.

I use it also along with their advanced system care. Nothing wrong with good free software and I even bought the pro version of advanced system care as I like the product.

I have been using it for 10 days or so.

I like the automatic de-frag, but sometimes it seems to slow my system down. It runs in the background and shuts itself down if cpu usage passes 60%.

Been using Smart Defrag (1.5) for a while now and there's nowt wrong with it .

Installed 2.0 in a couple of minutes. Must say I like the old interface better but I guess I'll get used to the new one.

Edit: WOW, quick, it defragged a 230Gb drive with 40Gb free space in just over 3 minutes. But I keep the drives maintained and defragged weekly.

Diskeeper has been offering me an upgrade to a new defragger, but they want money.

I will check this out.

When I noticed this topic I though, "it's been years since I used a disk defragmenter, isn't that a little nineties", so I used Google to have a look for recent articles on the current situation.

There is an interesting and recent PC World article on the issue of using a defragmenter

A couple of quotes from the article:

The short answer: Defragging isn't vital anymore, but it's still a good idea--unless you have a solid state drive. And Windows' own defragger is fine.

All of the defraggers came in at a statistical dead heat. Even weirder, the still-fragmented disk tied with the defragged ones.

[..] modern hard drives were not noticeably slowed by fragmentation [..][but] defragging is still a good idea, because, should a disaster strike, it makes successful data recovery more likely.

So there you are. Apparently you shouldn't expect any performance increase from defragmenting your drives, but if you have important data on the disks it might be worth defragmenting in order to be able to recover the data easier.

OTOH, I don't know what the statistics are for that, but I've always been a little apprehensive of the risks that the defragmentation process itself might mess up my data...

I'm currently using Win 7, and after having tried most of the popular defrag software out there I find the best is the one supplied with the OS. Only trouble is remembering to leave it on for the auto defrag.....................

Very unlikely; I never actually seen it happen.

Once a month is plenty. Windows' defragger is good enough.
