U.S. jobless rate drops slightly to 8.8 in March

2011-04-01 20:50:14 GMT+7 (ICT)

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- The U.S. added 216,000 jobs in the month of March, as the unemployment rate continued to drop at 8.8 percent, compared to February's 8.9, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday.

According to the report, the job increase occurred in the nonfarm sector, which includes in professional and business services, health care, leisure and hospitality, and mining.

With 13.5 million unemployed people in the U.S., the 8.8 jobless rate is a positive sign for the nation's economy as it represents a 1.0 decrease since November 2010 and represents the lowest in two years.

The report also showed that 8.2 million people lost their jobs or completed temporary jobs in March. This marks little change on a month-to-month basis, but it is a 1.3 million decrease since last November.

Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rates for adult men (8.6 percent), adult women (7.7 percent), teenagers (24.5 percent), whites (7.9 percent), blacks (15.5 percent), and Hispanics (11.3 percent) showed little change in March. The jobless rate for Asians was 7.1 percent.

In addition, the average hourly earnings for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls in March were unchanged at $22.87, but this is a 1.7 percent increase over the past 12 months. Average hourly earnings of private-sector production and nonsupervisory employees edged down by 2 cents over the month to $19.30.

Personally I don't think much of those numbers as they don't count people off the rolls and not even looking anymore (lost all hope) but the lower that magic number goes, the greater chance Obama has of being reelected. So in that sense the game of the numbers does matter.

If that's all you got, that he "lies" he might as well plan start planning the next inauguration ball right now.

Fine example of the shame on us crowd

Knows the numbers for UE are massaged ie:

but the lower that magic number goes, the greater chance Obama has of being reelected. So in that sense the game of the numbers does matter.

Yet continues with the blind faith

Hopefully the majority like those opposing his recent act of unprovoked war will prevail in the next election.

Then again as always ultimately it will come down to who is the perceived through slick campaigns backed by big dollars of those who profit by puppets as the least worst candidate forced upon us.

Exactly! Two terms, you can bank on it.

Funny because if true it is banking you will not be doing....Good luck with your funds based visa ;)

If we ( the USA) continue down this path it will take many many more dollars to equal what they once did.

Yes. The situation is much dire than these false claims and promotions. I've heard just the opposite as it applies to jobs/employment situation in America.
