and FWIW, as I was using the True sim for 3G browsing I noticed that it was considerably slower than i-Kool. of course this was a limited trial and may only apply to my area near Khrungthonburi BTS. i tried to get a topup at my local 7-11 but no luck. also the Big C near here has tons of phone shops on the first floor and they didn't have them either- nor did they have any iFox or other data sims out that I could see. i will try powerbuy today. they are supposed to have iKool sims. hopefully they have a nice data topup for me so i can get away from this !@#$% edge modem. the trials are just a tease for 3G- you are so psyched that you can download something or watch a video, then blammo it's game over. no more data. and now i'm filled with hate.

I went out today shopping for load for the sim card- a top-up to use on the i-Kool "real" 3G card above. It's amazing how many products are out there. I am attaching a pic of what I bought- the load cards are alleged to work with i-Kool; you will notice a "by i-Kool" designation right below the title "iFox 3G internet sim". I stopped at the Sala Daeng BTS for those Silom center, 4th floor- the SE-ED bookstore.

I wonder if what a vendor told me at MBK is true though- if you top up a card, you will pay 2 baht per MB. It doesn't seem that they would be selling these top up cards as 1000MB for 249 baht though if that is the case. The Mojo 3G card seems like the best deal at 180 baht for 1000MB based on what I am seeing now. If anyone is having better luck with the 3G experience please post your prices. I wouldn't mind picking up one of those 30GB/30 days deals, or either of the 5MB iFox or the IEC 30 days unlimited packages.

Note that the iKool points you to PowerBuy, but the one in Silom Center said that they do not have it but sent me to SE-ED, who ironically didn't have it either but did have the iFox.

I am a little confused at all of the effort to set up an elaborate dealer network consisting of so many brands when even their "central" stocking dealers don't have the sims or load. And the whole 7-11 thing seems to me to be a big joke- I stopped at 3 of them today and nobody had any idea what iKool was. I even showed them my sim- no luck. No sims, no load.

I am still holding that "dead" iKool sim- the one that never did anything. I might try to top it up with one of the IFox load cards and see what happens. Which brings up another question- what do I do if I have no smartphone? Can I still apply the topup from the modem software supplied by D-Link?

UPDATE---UPDATE---- I just got off the phone with iKool at 02 333 3333. Yes, the iFox load card and be added to the iKool card. Also I found out that the other iKool card that I got (the "fake" in the picture above) is expired. How that happened when I just got it yesterday I don't know. But it was free so no complaints here.

To top up, they actually ask for the number on the front of the sim card and then the number behind the scratch off panel on the load card. He loaded both of those to my sim so I will have 2048MB.

I'm wondering about these two iKool sim cards that I have- one worked and the other didn't. What's up with that?

Perhaps the card has expired. Call i-Kool and read out the card serial number for them. Perhaps they can give you more information.

I see that you have already done so.

Most of these SIM packages have an expiry date. Just because you just bought the modem does not mean that the modem was recently manufactured. Also the SIM may have been pre-activated for the purpose of demonstration.

As for the i-Fox 5GB...have you tried these shops? or simply contact i-Fox?

Their offices are quite close to where you have been perusing anyway. Perhaps you can go there to pick up a pack or two.
