Dutch man arrested after fathering baby with 12-year-old daughter

AMSTERDAM (BNO NEWS) -- Dutch police have arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of fathering a baby with his 12-year-old daughter, prosecutors announced on Tuesday.

Kirsten Smit, a spokeswoman for the country's prosecutor's office, earlier said the 12-year-old girl became pregnant at the age of 11. She gave birth to a baby girl on March 22 during a school trip and was reportedly unaware that she was pregnant. Both are in a good condition.

As a result of the unexpected birth, prosecutors opened an investigation to determine who the father of the baby is. "It is in any case a criminal offense," Smith said, adding that child protection services had filed a police complaint. The age of consent in the Netherlands is 16.

On Tuesday, prosecutors announced that the father of the 12-year-old girl had been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing his daughter. The arrest came after the girl's father had voluntarily given his DNA to police last week.

"The Netherlands Forensic Institute in The Hague has compared the DNA-profile of the man to that of the baby. This showed a great chance of the 52-year-old man being the father of the baby," the prosecutor's office said in a statement on Tuesday. It said the suspect is being questioned by police.

According to De Telegraaf newspaper, the 52-year-old man was previously convicted of sexually abusing a child in a previous marriage. He served two years for the abuse, the newspaper reported, although Smit did not want to comment on the report.

So far, the youngest confirmed mother in the world is Lina Medina who gave birth in Peru in 1939 at the tender age of just 5. Despite investigations, it was not possible to determine who the father was.

Appears to have nothing to do with Thais, Thailand, nor life in Thailand. Why post it?

Perhaps because this is the "World News" section of Thaivisa?

Horrible and tragic, especially for the 12 year old and the baby.

The 52 yr old man is from St. Maarten/Dutch Antilles (Caribbean) background, was an alcoholic and had other children with various women

He was convicted earlier for sexual assault with another daughter (now 30) from another relationship for which he served 2 years in prison.

Strange that he was willingly cooperating with the police giving his DNA; one would expect he would have refused to do so.

Incomprehensible that the local authorities, in Holland, where they lived now (coming from the St. Maarten/Antilles) were not properly informed about his sexual assaulting background and allowed him to stay (in his new town) with some of his other children; the problem was that he left Holland after his jail term and "escaped" the controlling authorities; when he came back from St. Maarten he slipped through the nets so to speak.

The mother of the children, staying with the father, abandoned the father and her kids.

Disgusting and so tragic for the girl and her baby; the girl became pregnant when she was 11 but she wasn't aware of her pregnancy but at first, also refused to tell who the father was.

Now we know :(:bah:

Just seems an unnecessary and salacious story, is all.
