Govt to face Bt39.8 million lawsuit on last year's bloodshed

By The Nation

The 111 Thai Rak Thai Foundation on Friday announced its civil litigation suing the government for Bt39.8 million damage in connection with the April 10, 2010 crackdown on red-shirt protesters on Rajdamnoen Avenue.

The foundation, a non-profit organisation formed by 111 barred party executives following the Thai Rak Thai Party dissolution, claims to represent 16 victims, killed or injured by the anti-riot forces.

Foundation's lawyer Udom Prongfa said the litigation would be filed at the Civil Court naming the Finance Ministry, the Defence Ministry and the Army as defendants.

Udom said under relevant laws, the Finance Ministry was responsible for damage incurred by the state and government officials.

He added that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban and the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation could not be included in the list of defendants because the three were granted immunity under the Emergency Decree.

To overcome the immunity, the legal battle would be based on provisions on the accountability related to offence involving government officials, he said. In the 1996 legislation, injured parties are entitled to sue for damage inflicted by the state and government officials.

111 Thai Rak Thai Foundation to focus on rice and energy

The 111 Thai Rak Thai Foundation, a new home of banned party executives, on Wednesday kicked off its activities.

Foundation Chairman Pongthep Thepkanchana said the banned executives will start by acting like a think tank to map out the country's strategies for rice and energy.

Two former ranking members of disbanded Thai Rak Thai Party, Sukavich Rangsitphol and Phumtham Wechayachai, have been designated to lead two study groups on rice and energy respectively, he said.

Additional whimsical insights into the 111

Banned TRT 111 launch foundation

The House No 111 Foundation will debut on May 2, and former Thai Rak Thai Party Leader Thaksin Shinawatra has been asked to be Chief Adviser, former Thai Rak Thai executive Pongthep Thepkanchana said yesterday.

Pongthep said the foundation was aimed at letting the 111 banned former Thai Rak Thai executives contribute to society.

It was uncertain whether Thaksin, as well as other banned former Thai Rak Thai executives who already support other parties, would be able to attend the launching ceremony.

Pongthep said the foundation would not be Thaksin's platform for a political role, because he already had many platforms and positions.

Thaksin does not want to be in the spotlight, but instead wants to live his life quietly, Pongthep said.

Oh really...

"Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, who is on a self-imposed exile, spoke to the Wall Street Journal from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates that he will play a key role in determining the country's economic policies if the Pheu Thai Party, which he is sponsoring, gets to head the next government"

A real quite life by the looks of it....:whistling:

This 111 Bunch just gets more and more comical even by just barely scratching the surface.

The Director of the 111 Thai Rak Thai Foundation is a man with a great first-syllable surname... Wiboon Shamsheun.

Turns out Wiboon is a Pheu Thai Party MP from Ayuthaya...akin to PTP is suing the Democrats, in other words.

He's also CEO & Founder of The Thai Red News

Here's Wiboon interviewing a great stalwart of the legal profession that no doubt is a consultant for the plaintiffs in this "Thai Govt To Face Bt39.8 Million Lawsuit"

O this basis - Reds caused blockaded the city, were warned time and time again, and after months, the Govt dispersed the crowds and people were injured and killed. This was followed up by Reds burning Bangkok - and these Thai Rak Thai (Thai's Love Thais) are suing the Govt? cheesy.gifwacko.gifrolleyes.gif

Yep, with the Director of the Thai Rak Thais being a current Pheu Thai Party MP and Red bigwig.

Elections must be coming soon. Any means to discredit the political parties in the current government seems allowed. It's almost like campaigning on negatives. No need to offer clear positives, apart from 'we'll have k. Thaksin back' of course ;)

As per the other paper, in addition to Udom at today's press conference announcing the lawsuit was

Police General Wiroon Fuensaen.... akin to the Police suing the Army, in other words.

Additionally,

*boing* *zonk* ...

Wiroon is also a Pheu Thai Party part-list MP.

Can they sue for their injuries sustained

when they are committing illegal acts?

So you and your friends shot at a cop,

and resisted arrest,

and were shot by arresting officers;

So then sue them for your injuries,

and see how far you get.

Same thing multiplied by a few thousand.
