April 9, 201115 yr Sorry if this subject has been "brought up" before here, but I haven't seen it and a search turned up negative. Back in the 70's, when I was an exchange student in Mexico studying Spanish literature, Chevy introduced a new model car. The Nova had been a big hit in the States, and did equally well south of the border despite the ongoing urban myth that Nova meant "no-go". But, while there, being young and full of piss and vinegar, I hung out with Mexican friends and learned not only classic Latin literature, but some mighty fine vulgarities too. So when I came here to LOS to see a vehicle made in Japan which is sold in Mexico and America as a Montero, but which for some reason a Japanese company had decided to give a Spanish name in Thailand, I thought, why not just give it a Thai name? But if you are going to give it a Spanish name, perhaps for the exotic sound (although I doubt most Thai even know the name is Spanish), why not be sure of what you are doing? After all, you are a mammoth company with unlimited resources. The Spanish for passenger is pasajero(a), not pajero. Pajero has two basic meanings in Spanish. One is a person who carries or sells straw. The other is considered to be a vulgar slang word, applicable to some men, and so not used in polite company (so it should fit right in here on TV). Perhaps the many genteel readers of TV could suggest a new, more appropriate name for the Pajero, and forward it to Mitsubishi for consideration. Any ideas? Thai names only now…. Since most seemingly drive blind already, I don't think too many Thai want to continue driving a Masturbator. Edited April 9, 201115 yr by happyrobert
April 9, 201115 yr In North America, and other spanish speaking Countries, its the Montero. Looks like the rest of the world (incl. Thailand) gives a toss about it, and likes to drive around in a "Masturbator". Edited April 9, 201115 yr by CHdiver
