PM Denies House Dissolution on May 19

The prime minister insists it is still uncertain when he will dissolve the Lower House.

He dismisses May 19 as the date set for the House dissolution as suggested by the Chat Pattana Puea Pandin Party.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva denied he plans to dissolve the Lower House on May 19 as suggested by the co-founders of the newly-formed Chat Pattana Puea Pandin Party.

The prime minister said he will decide after the House dissolution whether he will continue with his weekly TV program.

The premier insists he has never used the airtime for political retaliation.

Abhisit went on to say the Senate will put the organic bills on the election on its agenda on Monday.

The premier said he believed the draft laws will pass the Senate's deliberation after the Songkran long weekend.

He called on all parties to help Thais to celebrate the upcoming Sonkran by ensuring peace and prevent any unrest from taking place.

House Speaker Chai Chidchob stated the Senate's vetting of the election bills should be completed on April 8.

The draft bills will then be forwarded to the Constitution Court for a review.

Chai said political parties can speculate on the date of the House dissolution.

But the exact date will be only known when the premier presents the date to His Majesty the King for his official approval.

Chai said the premier still has not given him any clues about when he will dissolve the House.

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of national security Suthep Thaugsuban said the draft election laws will be ready before the end of April and in time for the new election if the House is dissolvedin the first week of May.

Suthep expects the House to be disbanded before May 7.

Abhisit will only hold the election early if he believes that he'll win.

The men in black and the people in blue could easily have come from Chidchob's side to rescue Abhisit during the the red shirt rallies of last year and 2009.

Therefore, a situation can easily be created between now and July should Abhisit's coalition suspect they might lose.

May 19th-21st is also the anniversary of the majority of deaths during the violence last year and will be remembered while there's no government in place after the house is dissolved.

Previously both Thaksin and the yellow shirts were willing to compromise for a National government. Should Thaksin worry that he won't win too, then this might be a path for him. So, after the house is dissolved I'm thinking that the chance for trouble is high.

It would seem as if those on the outside are trying to force an issue that they have no control over.

Hidden agenda's theories spring to mind. With all the muddying of the Thai political waters the Prime Minister is the only person who actually may know just when the next general election will be called.

Methinks for his youth his ability to confuse his critics is indeed to be admired, hopefully the brains of the political dinosaurs that abound in Thai politics are not able to cope with the modern mindset of the current Prime Minister.

When one see's that favorable dates have to be set, ancient military personnel are restrained from resigning convicted felons standing for election the opposition may be under starters orders in what passes for their minds, however they may well be pre-empting the starters orders.

I've lost track. Is that a flip or a flop?

What's flip or flop about it. The only time he's stated for house dissolution is early May. Just because everyone else seems to be picking dates out of the air.

So the 19th isn't early enough in May right?

If you think that the 19th is early in the month, then who am I to argue with you.

Provided all the laws are in place and conditions are right.

So lets see Songkran pass without violence, other than water borne.

It's just the very democratic solution for a possible conflict in activities. May 19th is already marked for anniversary protests by UDD and various other colorful groups. It wouldn't do for the PM to spoil those by calling a House Dissolution then. Early May he said before which to me sounds like certainly not in the second half of May. Actually it seems the PM has said before 'first week of May'

From March, 11th:

"Reuters has already reported this, but the Thai government’s official twitter account @ThaiKhuFah now tweets:

House dissolution to take place in the first week of May, PM Abhisit announced today."

From March, 12th:

""I intend to propose this House dissolution for the king's approval by the first week of May, which is the time frame that I'm pretty confident that the regulation and law will be ready," he said."

So it first has to be approved right?

Than and only then will a date for the dissolusion be known.

From 2011-03-16:

"The Prime Minister said that the Election Commission had already worked out the organic laws. If it takes a long time to pass the organic laws, Section 7 of the Constitution allows the Election Commission to issue new regulations for use in place of the organic laws. However, efforts will be made to push for the passage of the laws first before the other option is considered."

From 2011-04-08:

"MPs pass three organic laws; Senate approval by April 22 latest

The passing of three organic laws yesterday signalled that the elections are coming closer."
