Iranian students rally against repression of Bahrain protests

2011-04-13 03:21:09 GMT+7 (ICT)

TEHRAN (BNO NEWS) -- A large number of Iranian university students on Tuesday gathered in Tehran University campus to protest against the repression of peaceful protesters in Bahrain and other Islamic countries in the region, the semi-official Fars News agency reported.

Protesters condemned the crimes committed by the Saudi and Manama rulers against the peaceful demonstrators, and called on the United Nations and other international bodies to recognize the demands of the Bahraini people. They also chanted various slogans such as 'Down with the USA' and 'Down with Al-Saud', while carrying large flags of Bahrain and Palestine.

In their final statement, the students said that the recent and current popular uprisings in the region will lead to the establishment of Islamic popular regimes.

More than 25 people have been killed, hundreds arrested and thousands injured in the government-authorized violence in Bahrain. Since February 14, demonstrators have been demanding constitutional reforms as well as an end to the 230-year-old monarchy.

In March, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait deployed their troops to Bahrain to reinforce a massive armed crackdown on the popular uprising.

Pretty ironic since Iran is one of the worst offenders. I wonder why they don't protest against Iran?
