Go to the bus station and ask a tuk tuk, local bus driver, they will put you right. Go's for hotel as well. There is one Hotel not bad going toward Tesco's same side after you leave bus station. Not on main road though. So you will have to look.

A caveat as to clubbing and bar-hopping in Plok. Remember, it's one of the very few large city areas that is seemingly very short of public transport of every sort - samlors, tuk-tuks, taxis, pedicabs, etc. Best to have your own vehicle or plan accordingly. Outside of those restrictions, Phitsanulok is a hidden treasure trove of adult entertainment associations......it's just not known for such.

I've always stayed @ the Topland Plaza hotel, built 15 years ago. There's another Topland hotel, but it's older and dirty.

Can't help with barhopping in P-loke, but an excellent traditional Thai massage can be had at the Phae Hatha Thai Massage on Wangchan Rd. It's a massage centre located on a raft. The Phra Si (Wat Yai) Temple (located just behind the Topland Plaza) is extremely well known amongst Thais as it contains one of Thailand's most revered & copied Buddhas, second only to the Emerald Buddha in the City of Angels.

I stayed at Topland (in the Plaza) last year and it was okay.

This hotel is a long way from any reasonable bars though, and my knowledge on that side is very limited. I've heard there are karaokes near the bus station, but all I did on my trip was to explore the long strip of bars along the river. This is about a mile from Topland, following the river in the direction of the bright lights. These are fine for a drink and several have live music. You'll find a few 'sao BG' (e.g. sao beer chang)in attendance, but no farang-style hostess bars.

Yes, this is the Topland which I was referring to. Thanks for the link.

I agree that I don't think you'll find any farang-style hostess bars in P-loke, just the raft restaurants/bars along the river.

Take a sidetrip to Sukhothai if that's of any interest to you.

The Riverside Grand is right across the bridge from the Nite bazar. Never stayed there but seems touristy from the outside. Topland is more a business hotel with a shopping mall. Used to be load of bars around the outside of the Riverside. I only passed them it is rare that I go to town after dark as we live outside town and don't party at all. They have taxi now and that is new to Phitsanulok as they were outlawed for years in fav of Tuk Tuk. Rivierside to Train Station is a direact walk down to the river and over the bridge maybe 4 - 5 city blocks. Train station is full of information and transportation options. Enjoy your stay- Please keep Phitsanulok green and bring cash :jap:

Forgot to mention that there is a nightclub in Topland - Picasso - which sometimes has coyote dancers. If nothing comes to light you could just watch!

Will be interested to hear more from the locals re karaokes etc.

I was staying here with some lads from the UK, they had a great time in the club....and afterwards  No bar girls as such but certainly more than a few willing young ladies ready to have fun. Cheap as well. Fun place. Enjoy.

As an infrequent visitor to P'lok, here's my take on it.

Wherever you go in the world, if it's in a Caucasian country, then it's all equal. If you're in a country where you're facially, physically, cuturally different, then I've always accepted that there is "their place" and "our place". In those circumstances, I've usually given 'their place' a wide berth.

For an easy example, Soi Bangla, and most parts of Patong are "our place" - it's geared up, mainly, for Caucasians. Few Thai males compete with us here. There are equally fun places in Phuket Town where some very good looking local girls get around, but that is 'their place'. Try to get amongst the local girls here, and you risk upsetting the Thai guys and that could result in something very nasty.

So, to P'lok.

Riverside Bars:

Lots of bars, with good TV if you want the football. Very nice atmosphere. Even more attractive locals, but very little interaction. I put that down to 3 things - this isn't a bar girl area, flirting with farang isn't the done thing in Thailand outside of tourist areas, and poor language abilities. I'd still call this 'our place', though.

Playground Cayote Bar:

On the Makro Road. Starts around 11pm. Noisy, and many scantily clad women around. However, virtually only Thais, so I wouldn't want to intrude on their space and women in this bar.

Phits Club(?)

Only went once, and early in evening. Relatively pricey. Attractive escorts, quite a few Thai business people. Again, I think language skills will be a problem, but I'd call this a 'neutral' venue, and a reasonable classy pick-up joint. Maybe I'm wrong - have only been once.

Picasso, in Topland:

Noisy, and quite a few cayote girls around. Full of Thais having a good time. Unless there are a group of farang, I'd consider this to be 'their place'.

Maimon, near Topland:

Definitely 'their place'. Restaurant, bar, and gigs. Nice atmosphere, but it's a place for them, and not one for us to go afetr the local girls.

Bus station:

I've been told about this area, too. But, I've never found anything! Came across some lovely girls, wearing very little, but they were just outside a couple of karaoke bars. Now, "sing-a-song" ain't my thing, so I wouldn't go in. Probably okay if you like karaoke, but piss off a drunken Thai guy and you're a bit isolated around the bus station.
