In any case, Thaksin or anyone else, wikileaks is not damning evidence. It is a leaked cable of someone interpreting or commenting on something that might have happened. It might confirm in some peoples minds, but it is irrelevant in a court of law.

OK that's it.If you can't grasp my point I don't see a simpler way of putting it (and I'm getting bored with repeating it!)

How many times must I say I agree with you about court of law evidence. However that's not the true significance of Wikileaks whether in Thailand or elsewhere.

On a point of detail, you are completely incorrect to suggest that Wikileaks are "leaked cables of someone interpreting or commenting on something that might have happened".In most cases they are an Ambassador's reports of conversations he had directly with the people involved.

Yes ... someone (often the Ambassador) interpreting or commenting (reports) on something (conversations) that might have happened.

And no one is denying that something was said to the ambassador. I don't think anyone is actually agreeing with Jatuporn being charged with LM, either.

But it does appear that he did break the law, and there is video evidence of him doing that. It also appears that (I can't remember off the top of my hear exactly who it was that spoke to the ambassador) they may have also broken the law, but the only evidence there is of that is a leaked report that a conversation took place and summary of what was said.

Phew... after all of the above, it finally returns to the actual topic of the thread.

With the addition, of course, of the mighty Issan Rambo and the PTP MP Kamchao being added to the "he" (Jatuporn).

Will be interesting to see if the just-recently-returned-fugitive Rambo and Jatuporn's bail gets revoked.

*edit. Speaking of fugitives and going into mid-April now and still no sign of the fugitive terrorist suspect and barber (from the pic earlier) Arisaman turning himself in.

Deputy PM Warns Red-shirts about Lese-Majeste

The deputy prime minister in charge of security has warned core red shirt leaders to stop dragging the Monarchy into political affairs

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of national security, Suthep Thaugsuban, said in an interview after a merit making ceremony in Nonthaburi for the Songkran festival, that ousted premiere Thaksin Shinawatra must stop funding the red-shirt demonstrations after core red shirt leader, Jattuporn Prompan, criticized the Monarchy, even after Thaksin tweeted that all parties must put a stop to any and all criticism of the Royal institution.

Suthep warned Jattuporn and his party to end any actions or criticisms that could have negative impact on the Monarchy as it is unacceptable in the public's eyes.

Suthep suggested that Thaksin and Jatuporn should talk about their election campaign rather than drag the Monarchy into political affairs.

Regarding whether the authorities and the Special Investigation Department will file lese-majeste charges against Jattuporn, Suthep said he will not interfere with legal proceedings as there are already people responsible for taking the necessary legal actions.

He also refused to speculate on whether Jattuporn will file a counter-suit.

While the DPM certainly puts his foot in his mouth on occasions, he certainly seems to hit the right note here.

DSI says at least 18 UDD core leaders of UDD may face insulting monarchy charges

BANGKOK, April 15 -- Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) said at least 18 leaders of the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) made inappropriate remarks about the monarchy at their recent Red Shirt rally.

DSI Director-General Tharit Pengdit said after screening video clips, still pictures and speeches made by the leaders during the rally in the capital on April 10, it was found that at least 18 were allegedly made remarks which were deemed insulting to the revered monarch as well as instigating people to violate law.

Anti-government UDD protesters on Sunday commemorated last year's deadly clash with security forces at Khok Wua intersection on Rajdamnoen Road.

More investigations will be made, Mr Tharit said, noting that the authorities believe that more people will be found guilty in the deaths.

Mr Tharit said he will submit requests to the Office of Attorney General on Monday and the court to revoke the earlier bail granted to nine UDD core leaders.

The nine are Natthawut Saikua, Weng Tojirakan, Korkaew Pikulthong, Kwanchai Praipana, Yoswasris Chuklom also known as Jeng Dokchik, Nisit Sinthuprai, Wiphuthalaeng Pattanaphumthai, Veera Musikapong and Jatuporn Prompan.

Mr Jatuporn is also a party list MP under the opposition Puea Thai Party.

All nine were detained and charged with terrorism in connection with the violence during the UDD protests in April-May last year, the seven, excluding Mr Veera and Mr Jatuporn, were released on Feb 22 on condition that they were forbidden to leave Thailand without court permission or to join any political gathering to incite chaos.

Mr Veera was granted bail last July while Mr Jatuporn was released on bail after invoking his parliamentary immunity.

DSI to Summon 18 Red-shirts for Alleged Lese-Majeste

The deputy prime minister in charge of security says the government has no intention of filing a party dissolution against the Pheu Thai Party while the Special Investigation Department Director-General is preparing to summons the individuals involved.

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of national security Suthep Thaugsuban stated that the government is not likely to file a dissolution against the Opposition Pheu Thai Party after one of its MPs and red-shirt core leader, Jattuporn Phromphan gave a controversial speech during the April 10 red-shirt rally.

Suthep believes the move was carefully planned and has asked ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra to stop sending messages instructing the red-shirt leaders to stop criticizing the Monarchy. He accused Thaksin of then Tweeting a message urging all parties to cease their verbal attacks against the Royal institution.

Meanwhile, The Department of Special Investigation, or DSI, Director-General Tharit Phengdit disclosed that the investigation into the April 10 red-shirt rally found that the core leaders, along with 18 others, were found to be linked to lese-majeste charges and that the DSI will meet sometime next week to discuss issuing a summons for the suspects.

The DSI plans to request that bail requests for ten of the involved suspects who will be summoned be denied, while the other eight, who were also on the stage, are suspected of supporting the anti-Monarchy movement.

Some of these guys are elected officials are they not?

Do they ever do any of the things they're elected to do?

If Thailand had decent politicians, they would be working morning 'til night trying to find tangible ways to ease the plight of regular people - people who are trying to make ends meet, raise families, etc. Instead, Thai politicians do a whole lot of grandstanding, playing golf, taking naps, and slinking out to meet their mia noi.

... it is a 'representative' democracy ... the Thai political class would be reflective of Thai voters

According to the other paper, despite Jatuporn et al's threats to file counter charges, they have not done so to this point, while the DSI has said they plan to file the bail revocation requests tomorrow.

I hope he likes Bang Kwang. A good place for him. At least we didn't have to hear his big mouth for awhile. I'm surprised Mr. T isn't puting him up for PM.

So why are you listening to him? Who is "we"? I make my own choices.

Wow!! You seem incredibly independent. Sorry I included you in "we." From this point forward I will post "we (except for rreddin)" Happy now?

I have never heard of or from him either. What does he do? May have to exclude myself from the we also. Looks like a nice friendly chap tho.

Also revealing is that his own party not sticking up for him... instead, rather the opposite...

trying to distance themselves from the pariah...

Pheu Thai uneasy over Jatuporn’s remark on 10 April

BANGKOK, 13 April 2011 (NNT) – The opposition Pheu Thai Party has denied responsibility for a recent comment made by its MP Jatuporn Prompan about the monarchy while the latter is planning to sue the Army Chief for accusing him of lese majeste.

Following Mr Jatuporn’s statement regarding royal family members issued on the stage of the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) on 10 April, Pheu Thai Party Deputy Leader Plodprasop Suraswadi declared that the Party had no involvement.

Although no warning would be issued by the party to the outspoken MP for his action, the deputy leader said most of the party’s members should have felt uneasy about the issue. He stressed that the royal institution must be upheld above politics and all citizens are required to show their loyalty and respect.

Meanwhile, after his remark was considered in violation of the lese majeste law by Army Chief General Prayut Chan-O-Cha and a lawsuit is soon to be lodged against him, Mr Jatuporn threatened to file a countersuit on 17 April over false accusation.

As the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will also petition the prosecutor to consider revoking the bail of Mr Jatuporn and other UDD members for breaking bail conditions prescribed by the Court, UDD core leader Natthawut Saikua stated that a team of lawyers would travel to the Office of the Attorney General on 18 April to oppose the bail withdrawal request. He claimed that all evidence, including photographs and footage, had been prepared.

Sounds like rather than party distancing themselves from the pariah of Jatuporn, some party bigwigs are distancing themselves from the pariah of the Pheu Thai Party...
