Bereavement/Compassionate Flights

Featured Replies

Due to a serious illness in the Family am required to return to the UK, for the eventual Funeral. Does anyone know

if any airlines offer compassionate fares, I know that if I book a fare to fly the same or the next day the price

will rocket. I actually checked flights leaving tomorrow (just to see) and Aeroflot came in under 30,000baht, the

rest where in the higher 30s and 40s.

I have already tried a few airlines, but maybe someone has first hand experience.

My Dad got it one time, for his mother's funeral. But I believe a death notice was required.

I tried one time and was told NO, but it was with Turkish Air. I would do a google search and see what shows up.

Sorry to hear of your situation....

Air Asia from KL to Stanstead is around the 11,000 baht mark if that is of any help ? I have never heard of them offering such flights

they would be the cheapest

Do you have insurance ? , as some of the high end insurance companies policiescover the cost of your flight if there is a death in the family

A return going tomorrow and returning in 5 days is 31,000 baht and that dosnt include meals, plus the cost of getting to KL

I have used this several times (bereavement flights for almost immediate travel) ---- TA's can often get better prices than what you would get from an airline in this situation.

The rules (then and there) were, documentation of the death and your immediate family status, and the discount was 50% off of full fare (not any discounted fares --- the airline's "rack rate".

Edited to add --- the only reason I used the bereavement fare was that I was flying limited access routes (only one or 2 airlines flew from where I was to where I was going)

Not sure how much help but my friend (Thai) got a flight back from London to Bangkok when her father died from Thai Airways at a very reduced price. Appreciate your circumstances are somewhat different but I would try Thai but as per the suggestion above do it through a good travel agent.
