Drawing of voting zones completed: Prapun

The Election Commission has completed the redrawing of 375 voting zones covering 77 provinces, including Bangkok, in a final preparation for the early election, EC member Prapun Naigowit said on Friday.

The voting zones were redrawn to comply with the switch from multi-seat constituencies to single-seat ones to fill 375 House seats apportioned via direct vote. The other 125 House seats will be allocated via the proportionate vote, known as the party-list vote.

DEADLY BORDER CLASH

Chong Chom pass in Surin closed

The army ordered the closure of Chong Chom pass in Surin province following the latest deadly clash between Thailand and Cambodia troops in Surin province on Monday morning.

The closing of the pass which is in Karb Choeng started at 10am on Monday, 2nd Army Region Commander Lt Gen Thawatchai Samutsakorn said.

The Thai army said it found two days ago that the Cambodian troops moved heavy weapons to an area near Prasat Ta Kwai in Surin's Panom Dongrak district.

The Thai troops on Friday told the Cambodian side to move the weapons out only to be fired at.

The clash eruptd at about 5am near the Prasat Ta Kwai, the exchange of rifle and artillery fires forced residents in about 20 villages in district to evacuate to safe areas.

The clash ceased about five hours later.
