No, we would be having wars albeit with a different reasonI'm not knocking religion. To each their own however, when fanatical religious groups try to shove their brand of religion down everyone throats and become violent in so doing, then problems arise. Today, these fanatics are blowing up families, ruining peoples lives for what? All in the name of "peace?" Give me a break !!! Your "tolerance, awareness and understanding" is not going to deter suicide bombers from their killing spree. They are not doing it in the name of peace!! they are doing it for the glory of Allah and their entrance to paradise. Mistaken and brainwashed maybe, but they believe it. Tolerance etc should be practised anyway, despite the myriad fools who are extremist. There is no excuse to follow them just because they shout the loudest Of course they are not doing it in the name of peace. Re-read my message, in the context that it was written, and note my sarcasm. As for your "tolerance," I wonder if you would be so tolerant if your family members were the innocent victims of these extremists. sadman Posted October 10, 2005 Share Posted October 10, 2005 IMHO I don't think that religion is the problem - it is the fundamentalism that pervades these people, whether it be ultra-Zionists, Muslim suicide bombers, Christian fundamentalists who bomb abortion clinics in the US - none of these creatures are acting in accordance with the central tenets of their respective religions. Fundamentalism is what is left when you take the love, compassion and tolerance out of a religion. And it's not good. For my own part, I hear people talk about events in the south of Thailand and how the Muslims should be suppressed and so on but, as a Christian living in a Buddhist country, I'm building a house in a Muslim village in Phuket. I have no problem with the people, nor they with me - we can peacefully co-exist without difficulty. In fact, they were a bit nervous about me being there because they initially thought that, as a Westerner, I might be anti-Islamic. (And no, I'm not building there to make a point - I simply like the land there). Peace is the key. Don't be dragged into reprisals or retaliations. We all know that the murderers are wrong, but 2 wrongs will never make a right. We all have a wish to leave in peace and security, so let's do it together.
