TOT awards 3G contract to SL today

By The Nation

TOT will officially award a Bt15.99-billion contract to the SL consortium of Loxley-Samart Corp today to supply equipment to build a nationwide third-generation wireless broadband network.

The state agency will launch services on the new network in June. Currently, TOT provides the 2.1-gigahertz 3G service on an existing network with limited coverage in Greater Bangkok.

The SL consortium won the bid on January 28 by quoting Bt16.29 billion, which was 6.59 per cent lower than the state agency's budget of Bt17.44 billion.

The TOT bidding committee then bargained the price down to Bt15.99 billion.

Chart Thai Pattana to field 100 candidates

By The Nation

The Chart Thai Pattana Party will field 100 electoral candidates to contest the direct vote, party spokesman Watchara Kannikar said on Friday.

The party plans to endorse candidates with a real chance of winning even though there will be 375 House seats up for grabs, he said.

For the party-list contest, the party will field the maximum limit of 125 candidates selected from leading professionals and local figures in order to attract proportionate votes, he said.

He also revealed that the majority of his party executives would not join the race so as to avoid punishment by party dissolution. Under the electoral law, a party is penalised by disbandment if its party executive was linked to campaign violations.

The party is expected to hold an orientation for candidates on May 20.
