Dear friends,

And with that money they have to pay for their accommodation, food, clothes, shoes, educate their children and have some fun once a week.

Good idea but I can't make the right calculation.

On the other side, no one will give them a rise if they do not fight.

If they don't fight they will live worse and worse.

If they lift the boycott on KFC food I am gonna support them.

Try imagine being on BHT 27 a week.

A bottle of Leo beer is 48 baht.

So sad :(

If they will fight, they will loose their jobs and will end up sleeping on the streets.

This is conditions in the country, they are NOT any worse off the any other person working in Thailand.

Now the managers who created the problem(providing this is all out in Thai media) may find themselves little unemployable for a while.

First, they will end up on streets. They are already there with that money.

What kind of accommodation can you pay for 1000 B?

Someone may let you sleep in his yard with rats, snakes etc.

Second, the managers created a problem.

In the 21st century we call it fighting for human rights.

People in New Zealand earn $13 per hour because they fought for their rights or as you say they were causing problems.

Third, try to imagine yourself working for 27 B per hour. (read: first, really imagine yourself being there and then answer this post)

I support boycott on KFC food.

:jap:

I do not know how to boycott someplace I have never been not intend to go. Too much goo Thai food around.

Many Thais think differently and are the core of KFC's customer base.

Surely foreign customers at KFC would make up a mere fraction of a percent over the whole of Thailand.

Cheated and under paid staff Vs big food takeaway empire.

Who do you think is going to win?

Answers please on a stamped self addessed post card.

First prize is a bucket of KFC fried chicken and French fries, which the staff probably could not afford to buy.

Pleased to see some good biz thoughts. Look, KFC is realted to your average Muslim gai hut in that they are both Halal, in Phuket that is. Prices vary from local to local. One item, the Zinger burger (gai) is 59 baht in Home Pro Village and 89 baht in Jungceylon

I notice that a large number of their employees are very young and are probably too afraid to speak out.

Why would you assume a young employee in a new job would be unhappy?

We have a report of a few disgruntled staff members complaining about the lunch time menu and everyone immediately assumes the company is rotten.

I really think most Thai people are mature enough to know that if they don't like a job they can leave. This is a free country and the staff are not slaves.

WOW KFC pays more than

Chirathivat Family Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at Central World

That Company only pays 280 THB per day Casual rate for a 9.5 hour day = 29 THB all inclusive..

and 5500 per month to full time employees Commis chef for 5.5 Days per week @ 9.5 scheduled hours usually 10-12 hours no over time pay..

So some one should sue them too??

The least you can do is boycott them too. Let's boycott every business in Thailand which pays minimum wages. Perhaps we should just leave Thailand then....

I suppose Toyota employees should also get a brand new car for free!

Forced to eat noodles ??? I doubt anyone forced them. Do not like noodles go buy what you like!

Left overs food, as in unsold food! How is that leftovers??? Why should company put up a banquet for the staff?

Travel allowance? Is that a joke? Do not like to work or finish late, find another job!

Were paid ONLY 27 baht per hour?? Well that's ONLY the salary in Thailand . Are employees brain surgeons? Or highly educated staff ??

There is nothing unfair in removing those who disturb company operations. They used company time and money for their own agenda, further more they did not contact the management to voice their concerns prior to creating a problem .

If you ask me, nothing but 2 gold diggers trying to make some money.

KFC is a business and profits it makes is not an employees business . If employee has a problem with company profits, they are welcome to open their own.

The employees may not be brain surgeons but they may well be educated enough to read your bigoted and ignorant comments.

Toyota do not supply a free car but as with all car manufacturers they will give a discount and pay more than 5000 baht a month.

If the shift finishes at 1am, it would not cost much to assist them to get home.

Food does not become leftover until the shift has finished. 1 meal a day should be provided.

The people that run KFC in Thailand only bought a franchise, that is different to starting a business. Yes they are entitled to make a profit but not at the expense of the employees welfare.

Too many employers in Thailand treat employees as disposable chattels.

Kuffki, I don't know where you come from but I presume you are a Farang. Maybe you you should go to a village and work a 28 day month for 4/5000 baht. From this income pay for house, food and scooter (so you can ride home at 1am)

We all know that the pay in Thailand is low but your attitude stinks.

Thank you for saving me all that typing , your so right, It's not where we came from, It's not where we are at, It' where we are coming from inside that really matters.

We get what we give and maybe he might (I doubt it) get some compassion as he get a tad older.

I would think so, and that is typical of what I have seen in the sticks.

Pattaya maybe a little different - tropo, you would perhaps have a better take on this.

I admire kufki for bringing a sense of realism to proceedings.

His attitude may come across as heartless but there have too many bleeding hearts whining about, what is afterall, standard Thai practices. Don't try and Westernise it - the Thais will evolve naturally and 'the market' will eventually dictate what pricing structure a business can apply.

In the meantime, if 4/5,000 Baht p.m. is the going rate in the villages - so be it. We have just increased a decent member of staff's wages to 3,900 Baht for a 26 day month. She is delighted.

Foreign customers are quite evident at KFC outlets in the center of Pattaya (Carrefour, Garden Plaza, Big-C), but the only store where I'd say foreign customers outnumber Thai customers is at the Royal Garden Plaza store. Perhaps some others who frequent KFC more often could weigh in here. I don't often eat KFC.

Two of the above have a very slender grasp of reality and have never run a business, anywhere.

Don´t forget to use the TIP-BOX next time you visit KFC:-)

Thus abrogating the responsibility of the employer to pay the employee minimum wage. Capitalism at it's finest.

However, I think you'll find the wealthiest of any Thai employer paying the absolute minimum to their employees. Tightfisted money grubbing bunch that they are.

I used to work for KFC. We were never offered any meals and were paid minimum wage for the area (California Bay Area). It was easier than picking lettuce and paid more, and if we didn't like it, we could walk out the door and there were plenty of others who would gladly take our jobs. I absolutely DO agree that the corporate folks are too greedy and want to squeeze every drop of profit from their product at the cost of the workers' sweat, but the solution is a fair and objective union. Do you really think that such an entity could exist here?

Farang chicken may be bigger and whiter, but Thai KFC chicken are younger, more tender and juicer that Farang chicken. That is why Farang comes to KFC Thailand to eat Thai chicken. Thai chicken is cheaper too, and available on almost every street, especially in the shopping mall. However, some prefer the darker (grilled) chicken that comes from Isan (North East) with Som Tum. Some Farang like it so much, they move to Isan (Udon, Nongkai etc) themselves to start farming Isan chicken. There is also a small amount of Farang who specialize on old chicken, know as Kai Bann in Thailand, who is really tough to chew. Kai Bann do not grow up in their segregated cell serving their boss (producing eggs), but are independent, running around the street, eating and picking up what ever leftover.

That's probably why the losing rooster from a cock fight is considered very good eating in the Philippines (is this also the case in Thailand?). Well nourished with little fat.

... that's why just about everything is produced in China where unions don't exist and workers don't have rights.

I can't believe the comments suggesting that these employees don't have a legitimate complaint or that they are just trying to cause trouble. How does anyone live for a month on 5,200 baht in Bangkok. Typical of some expats who seem to think that the local population has some magical way of making 5,000 baht into a fortune in Thailand. It isn't. It's a little above slave labor. True it may be the official rate but it raises the broader of the right of Thai workers to demand better wages. I suggest those posters who criticize their actions take it upon themselves to live on 5,200 baht a month. Don't expect any of them will but they still complain that workers are lazy and paid to much. Seriously who's going to work hard for that sort of cash?

If they don't like the job they can always quit...how is that slavery?

Some of you people need to get a grip of yourselves.

I think corporations(which are more like monopolies now) should be spreading the wealth. They are the reasons the world is in such a dilemma to begin with. Criminals allowed to operate as if they are respectable citizens making an honest living. Nauseating. Share the wealth to benefit the people and the world or be crushed out of economic existence.

Nickname as an American but yet posting socialist nonsense...interesting.

Well. How generous. Little wonder so many find 500 baht a trick more alluring.

And, by the way, the cancerous MaMa noodles @ 6 baht per packet, are the only 'food' of choice available to the destitute Thai. Rather like your employees.
