I have a double entry tourist visa. Can I just exit Thailand and re-enter without buying the Cambo visa? or is that a must?

In order to exit Thailand, you will in fact have to enter into another country. Cambodia recquires a visa for most foreigners. (Thais can visit Poipet for 3 days for example, without a visa.) Suggest you visit the Cambodia embassy's website for more specific information..Or use the search engine here that has a lot of information including websites and visa costs in the reigon.

Technically, but that border has a large No-Man's land for lack of a better term. I'm wondering if i actually have to enter Cambodia or just exit Thailand.

Normally immigration will check for stamp from Cambodia before making a new stamp for Thailand.

Thanks

I have done a few border runs here for the past couple of years, and yes you need a Cambodian Visa that takes a whole page of your passport, plus the in & out stamps. Not sure on precise costs, I think the visa is about 800Baht, but I pay a man 1500Baht, to get the Visa, I go through Thai immigration and he comes back 15minutes later with my Cambodian 'in & out' stamps' and then I go back through Thai immigration. Dependent on the queues the total process is anywhere between 1/2hour to 1.5 hours.

My 'man' is licenced, but I'm sure the extra few hundred Baht is used to grease some palms to 'queue jump' the Cambodian bit. He has the relevant departure & arrival cards and fills them in for me, whilst I don't have to walk an extra 2km return and sit in the shade and have a smoke. For me well worth the extra Baht. The one time I actually wanted to go to Cambodia, the in and out was only 1/2 hour each.

Cambodian visa is $20 or go to the web site and get an evisa for $25 to save space on passport. It's only been discussed here every week foreverer. Probably be another one next week..laugh.gif

Thanks Dan - learn something new everyday! Didn't realise (because I never looked) that you can get E-visa for Cambodia - oh well 5 wasted passport pages. Extension based on marriage coming up soon - but will save me 2 more passport pages in the meantime!
