Israeli-Palestinian tensions rise in Jerusalem, 11 arrested after clashes

JERUSALEM (BNO NEWS) -- Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers on Friday clashed with Palestinian demonstrators in Jerusalem ahead of the Nakba Day celebration, the Haaretz newspaper reported.

The clashes took place on Friday morning in Silwan, Isawiya and in the Old City areas of the disputed East Jerusalem. Demonstrators hurled rocks at security forces that fired tear gas in return. Eleven protesters were arrested after the confrontations.

In several West Bank towns, weekly demonstrations have been held for the past five years in protest to the construction of a separation wall and the establishment of a large Jewish settlement.

IDF informed that two protesters were injured in clashes in Nabi Saleh. One Palestinian and one Israeli sustained minor injuries after being hit by IDF projectiles. Dozens of protesters also received medical treatment at the site.

Israel security officials are on heightened alert in preparation for Nakba Day events next Sunday. Palestinians commemorate the expulsion of an estimated 700,000 of their ancestors during the 1948 armed conflict with Israel.

The IDF has increased its presence in multiple potential points of contention in a preemptive attempt to prevent Palestinians from breaking into settlements and IDF army bases.

Several demonstrations have already been announced. Palestinians in Lebanon plan to march towards the Israeli border. Thousands are expected to arrive to Maroun al-Ras, a village in southern Lebanon that was a major point of fighting between the IDF and Hezbollah during the 2006 Lebanon War.

Israel obviously knows nothing about crowd control;. It's time for Israel to call in the experts from the Arab world. Syria, Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and many others could show Israel how its done. These Israelis just don't understand that the current Arab world strategies are what is acceptable to Arabs. How could anyone object if Israel applied the Syrian Tank strategy? Or perhaps, Israel should ask Iran for assistance. The Iranians are experts at using snipers to pick people off. This business of non lethal measures is for limp wristed western type countries. No wonder Israel can't control these people. No Gulf state would tolerate this nonsense.

They should call in the U.N human rights council many of whose member states know a thing or two about dispensing human rights to their own people. :whistling:
