Nokia Smartphone the ones that look like Blackberries and cost between 4000 and 5000b can you get a streaming internet connection with it or only GPRS ?

Can this be a normal 12Call SIM card ? I guess not, but wonder how you can get a real internet connection (no GPRS) combined with a normal SIM card to make phonecalls ??

Many thanks.

All you need to do is go into any "Telewiz" station (many in every Big-C) and you use your regular sim card and number and buy an internet package. 50 hours for 200 baht, 20 hours for 100 baht etc.

Generally speaking you would need to have some sort of mobile data package layered on top of your current One-2-Call SIM. You can try 2G data (GPRS/EDGE) with One-2-Call "on-the-fly" for 1 baht/min. You will probably have to set up an APN on the phone.

It is also advisable to get a "volume-based" packaged rather than a "time-based" package.

Provided you have enough balance you can subscribe to a data package from the phone. Initiate a service request using *138*

http://www.ais.co.th/vas/datatips/

Example 500 MB. 400 Baht. * 138 * 03 #

or you can call *138 and grind through the IVR system.

Other than mobile data like GPRS/EDGE or 3G your only other option would be WiFi, assuming the handset has that capability.

Many thanks for the information.

Just bought a Nokia C3 (3800baht, for my GF cuz she is sooo sweet) it has WiFi in case of being near a signal and GRPS. Did not go for 3G model as in her region there is no coverage except by CAT but that would give complications with the SIM cards. With the given information I think I can have it set up on a distance via the AIS office.

Thanks again.

I have a package with AIS that allows me 200minutes of calls, 50 SMS, 10 SMS and 4 hours internet for 250baht per month, anything over is extra.

This promotion has finished but I am still able to use it.

Just search through the various packages they offer.

You should not, I repeat not, get any data package that is time based (hours). You should, I repeat should, only get a data package which is volume based (mega-Bytes).

Unless you remember to start/stop the GSM 2G (GPRS/EDGE) each time you use it, you will quickly burn through your alloted hours, and then any remaining balance as you are connected but not using any data.

With a volume-based package you can stay connected 7/24 and then only have to monitor data usage. Some/most phones have utilities to monitor data usage and notify you when you reach a prescribed threshold. With AIS/One-2-Call you can use *139# SEND, and you'll get back a service response with your usage to date/or remaining balance.
