Iranian president sacks three ministers

2011-05-14 23:43:56 GMT+7 (ICT)

TEHRAN (BNO NEWS) -- Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Saturday sacked three of his ministers as part of plans to combine some ministries, Press TV reported.

In three separate decrees, Ahmadinejad dismissed Welfare Minister Sadeq Mahsouli, Minister of Mines and Industries Ali Akbar Mehrabian and Oil Minister Massoud Mirkazemi from their posts. Earlier this week, the Iranian government announced plans to merge some ministries.

According to Iran's Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2010-2015), the Iranian government is obliged to reduce its ministries form 21 to 17 to officially improve the efficiency of state administration. This has created some tensions since Iran's Parliament (Majlis) maintains that the country's legislative body should approve any changes in the legal duties.
