Customs Alcohol Rules

Featured Replies

My wife (she is Thai) is thinking about bringing a bottle of coconut liquor to her parents when we fly to Thai the next time. It's a 20% alcohol, 0.75 litre bottle.

Is this permitted by Thai law?

Thanks for all advice in advance

You are allowed to bring in 1 liter of alcoholic beverage without paying duty.

If traveling with two or more persons, the look at it per person NOT per group. If two persosn take two liters and it is in only 1 bag, they can fine you.

Good information... The Last time my Wife and I passed through Thai Customs we had two bottles in one bag. We weren't stopped luckily - I think the Customs officer would have to be a real jobsworth to pull us on that one. Regardless, now I know so its separate bags from now on.

For the Op: Also be wary of carry on allowances... i.e. the 100ml rule. If you are purchasing your bottle of Malibu outside of the airport, it will have to go into your checked luggage, you will not be permitted hand carry it.

Purchasing at Duty free is OK, only if you are travelling on a direct flight to Bangkok. If you are on a stop over, the security at the 'stop over' airport may not permit the bottle through the security check point; Once again due to the 100ml rules.
