Internet Slower Than A Snail

So, I want to speak to friends and family back in Europe. I can not log onto Windows chat.

Then I try to download, it says it will take 42 days.

Then I try to log onto Yahoo.com, it takes so long. I want to do business on the internet, can not.

I think to myself this is ridiculous. Why can it be?

Then, i think to myself, of course the elections are coming, so the 'best' way to help the Governement win, is to surpress communication.

I think same thing happened when they had the coup.

If this is true.....Where is freedom of speech? Why does this surpression feel so dated? When are these people in power going to grow up?

Supression of the internet is not a foot forward it is a 10 feet back.

Would have to know where you are trying to get decent speed internet and how you are connected. Believe me, it's not just the election or trying to suppress information, it's the back-asswards approach to internet in this country. If you can connect by landline you usually have a pretty good chance of decent speed connection. Air cards are crap, usually, satellite is dependent on weather conditions, etc etc etc.

Take a look in the internet and computer forum on Thaivisa and you might get some good advice, but honestly it's simply the way they don't do things here in Thailand.

Actually I have noticed that it has slowed down significantly since about a week or so ago, although I wouldn't have thought it had anything to do with the election.

Here in Laos there are no restrictions whatsoever

I think you might want to look for a more independent source of information than a newspaper that is published by the Laos Ministry of Information and Culture

The censorship here seems to depend on what ISP you are using but I guess it could be annoying. Slow services outside of Bangkok are more annoying though.

I think the OP really just has a bad DSL line/local internet problem. My TOT 6Mb plan here in western Bankgok still working fine.

The most I can get here from landline ToT / tplink in the village is 2mb.
