Work Permit Problem

Featured Replies

I have had two work permits as a teacher in Thailand so far,I have all the documents that is needed by the office.

But here's a new or maybe old problem that i hope somebody can help me with.

My last permit was handed back to the business manager of the school but she did not hand it back to the office,

Now they are saying i can never get another permit every again this has now been over a year and two different offices

at each end of this country. Can somebody suggest an idea??????

Of course the business manager denies everything and denies knowing me or the photocopy of the permit with her signature and the labor office

believes her.

Anyone out there with an idea please let me know

Seems you need a competent lawyer. That would be my suggestion.

I thought these days you didnt need to hand back the WP ?

but going with Mario2008 on this one....may need a decent lawyer to sort out, have a feeling there may be more to this than just not handing a WP back

You don't need to hand the WP back, allthough some labour offices still seem to require it, but you should cancel the work permit. It might be the case that the WP wasn't cancelled.

Have seen a report before where this was an issue and labour for that reason refused the issue a new WP.

From previous posts on such issues believe there is normally a fine involved and all is well. This seems may be a blame game fight rather than an attempt to make things right (even if it involves a fine). Has OP asked if a fine might make things right as he did not know he had to cancel?

If the WP doesn't need to be turned in, wouldn't it's expiration act the same as cancelling it?

Guess it would if the resignation (or firing) coincided with the expiry date, but lets suppose it had just been renewed and had 12 or 24 months left to run on it and the employee resigns and the labour office were not notified by either employer or employee...could see why they would get miffed..:D

Me again Thanks for the input

I have tried at two different office's to pay a fine and was bluntly told to go away(I did not go two Directors of Thai schools went)

My visa that was attached to my work permit got cancelled in 7 days of me leaving my job and handing back the permit

She was quick to do that but the permit she held onto for some reason.

My new school is of to try again next week at the local office

Any further info would be great

Cheers in advance

Thay might consder it a problem bewteen you and the old labour office.

If it is a government school, they might want to send a higher authorithy or have the director from the area education office have a word with the labour office.
