BMA to provide ID card issuance services after office hours

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Governor MR Sukhumbhan Paribatra said Wednesday that BMA district offices would provide services after officer hours to speed up citizen ID card issuance.

Sukhumbhan said the MBA offices would speed up the process so that the people, who are living in Bangkok, would have ID cards in time for casting their votes on July 3.

Earlier, the shortage of smart cards prompted many people to receive only temporary certificates when they renewed their ID cards.

Sukhumbhan said the BMA has also opened four express service centres to provide ID issuance services.

The four centres are located at BTS Siam Square station, BTS Prompong station and BTS Mor Chit station and at the first floor of the BMA Office.

PM takes leave to register for election campaign

BANGKOK, May 18 –Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has taken two days leave to apply as a party-list candidate for the Democrat Party, while advising ministers to be cautious in their joining events to avoid any violation of election laws.

Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Satit Wongnongtaey said after Wednesday's Cabinet meeting that the prime minister warned ministers regarding regulations of the Election Commission (EC) to prevent any unintentional violation of candidates ahead of the general election.

Ministers should avoid attending functions such as dinner talks and constituency candidates should not take wreathes to funeral held in the constituency in which they are candidates.

Mr Satit also said the prime minister will only permit ministers to take leave for campaigning no longer than three days a week. Any leave of more than three days a week will not be granted.

The prime minister himself informed the Cabinet that he would take two days personal leave on May 19 and 20. May 19 is the first day of the party-list MP candidacy registrations.

While the prime minister takes leave, Mr Satit will act in his place as his three other deputies will also take personal leave.

Meanwhile, Pol Maj Gen Suthep Romyanon, Bangkok Election Commission chairman on Wednesday met with Pol Lt Gen Chaktip Chaijinda on maintaining order during the registration and onward through the general election.

Pol Maj Gen Suthep said the registration for party-list candidates will be held at Bangkok Youth Centre (Thai-Japan) on Thursday. He asked supporters of candidates to act within the law.

The EC asked for 33 police officers to be stationed at 33 Bangkok constituencies to prevent any violation. Two officers from each police station are also needed to help the EC monitor and investigate any election law violation. (MCOT online news)
