YANGON, MYANMAR (BNO NEWS) -- A bomb explosion on a Myanmar (Burma) train killed at least two people on Wednesday, officials said.

The explosion took place on Wednesday evening on a train traveling from Rangoon to Mandalay and detonated at Sinthay Railway Station near Burma's capital of Naypyidaw in Tatkon, the Irrawaddy reported.

Authorities believe the explosion - which resulted in the death of a man and a woman and the hospitalization of at least seven injured people - could have been a time bomb.

The incident occurred as the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific affairs Joseph Yun arrived in Myanmar to begin his two-day visit for talks with the country's new government, which was formed on March 30 and is led by President Thein Sein.
