In April I will be staying at the Woodland Inn--Its somewhere near the General Post Office, close to the Chao Phraya River.

I want to give Soi Cowboy a look--Can some one tell me how far away it is--do I take a Tuk-Tuk or Taxi ?- and what fare I should expect to pay, so I know approx. what  I should carry

to avoid the problem of  the  " No change " which I  have had a couple of times before.

Hi Bucko ..welcome

The Woodlands is a hotel I have been trying to get get some info on so lets have some feedback on your visit.

First of all it located on ChareonKrung Road which since u mentioned the GPO I recon is a little bit North of the Oriential (No1 Hotel in World -costa lot about $300+ a night)

The best way of moving around Bangkok now is by Skytrain and I recon your nearest is Taskin (near the Bridge)

You will have to change at Siam and get one going to On-Nut where you get off at ASOK and Hey -the Cowboy.

From memory its about 50 Bt.single but have special multi day/journey deals.

I also do the odd 1-2 Tuk -Tuk rides when in KT but no more.(peng)Taxi from Woodlands to Soi C.will set u back @ 150Bt.(about 7Kms)

When you get off the sky train, walk up Sukhumvit (away from the city) a few yards and cross and turn left up Asok (Soi 21). Soi Cowboy is a few yards into Asok and runs between Asok and Soi 23. (If my memory serves me correctly).

Soi Cowboy is off Sukhumvite Road at Soi Asoke so on the other side of town.  Would not take Tuk Tuk anywhere in Bangkok myself and doubt they would even agree to go this far for a reasonable price.  Taxi would probably be 80-100 baht or so but have not done it so just a guess.  Perhaps a better option is the BTS (Skytrain).  Would require a change of train but most people seem to like it.  You can find route with a Google search.

It may be quicker and easier if you go to Siam BTS station rather than Saphan Taksin. Then hop on a train going towards On Nut and get off at Asoke station, go down from left and walk to the same direction your train went after you left it, cross Asoke road, turn to left and Soi Cowboy is on your right hand side (about 100-200 meters from the intersection. Coming back you might want to consider taking a taxi. Late at night the traffic is not too bad anymore. I think it will not cost you more than 100 baht.
