BAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) -- At least 13 people were killed and 74 others were injured on Sunday in a series of explosions that ripped through the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

"The final result of the explosions that took place in different parts of Baghdad today, targeted against civilians and security forces, had reached 13 people killed and 74 others injured, according to Health Ministry figures," the official spokesman of Baghdad's Operations Command, Maj-General Qassim Ata, said.

According to a security source, a booby-trapped car targeting a U.S. Army patrol blew off close to northern Baghdad's Taji district, causing an unspecified number of casualties. An attack by a suicide bomber followed after police arrived to the site, killing 7 people and wounding 10.

"Four explosions took place close to the headquarters of the Iraqi Federal Police in west Baghdad's al-Amil district on Sunday, followed by a booby-trapped car blast in the same place, killing 2 civilians and wounding 15 others, including 3 policemen," the security source added.

Another car bomb blew off in east Baghdad's Mustansiriya University, targeting a high-ranking officer in the Interior Ministry who was not hurt. The explosion killed a civilian and injured 5 others.

Three other explosions took place in east Baghdad, killing three people and wounding 29 others.
