Phuket Gazette:

Viagra overdose may have caused Finn’s death

PATONG: -- Pekka Juhani Laakso, 47, from Finland, was yesterday found dead in his room at the Sun, Sea & Sand Hotel on Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd, seemingly from an overdose of Viagra.

Pol Lt Padungpong Sukkaew told the Gazette that he had received a call at 3:30 pm from Preecha Nuwongsri, the hotel’s manager, telling him that a corpse had been found in one of the hotel’s rooms.

The door to the room had had a “Do not disturb” sign posted on it for two days before cleaning staff informed the manager that they suspected something was amiss. Upon investigation, the body was discovered lying on the bed.

The lighting and air conditioning was on and investigating officers found evidence of used Viagra and stomach medicine in a waste bin.

Mr Laakso was estimated to have been dead for about 36 hours when he was found, dressed in a black T-shirt and underwear, his hands still tightly gripping the bedsheets.

A doctor, called from Patong Hospital, said that the death was most likely caused by overdosing on the sexual stimulant, leading to heart failure.

Lt Padungpong said there was no evidence of violence, but police are waiting on results from Patong Hospital to confirm the cause of death. The Finnish Embassy in Bangkok has been informed.

Okay so the man suffered heart failure. Don't you think he would of made quite a reasonable amount of noise? But this being a hotel surely somebody would of heard him. But it depends what time of day it would of been. If it was in the daytime the tourists occupating the rooms would likely be sightseeing or something to that effect.

However be it night time some people would more likely be in the hotel sleeping and this noise may of alerted people in nearby rooms.

And lets just assume this man took the viagra for some sexual intercourse with a woman for a moment. The man was 47 years old and I don't want to jump to any assumptions about Thailand but I'd make a pretty good guess he was paying for sex. Now bargirls usually hang out at night time don't they? Pointing toward his death being at night time. Couldn't someone of heard anything?

Something isn't right here.

If he was gripping bedsheets then he must of been suffering from such a pain that caused him to have a grip. So that may of been followed by some noise. But it may of been a sudden death so no noise may of been heard.

It's strange for a Doctor to call it heart failure. Heart failure is a progressive chronic disease and not of itself a cause of death.

Do you think only in Thailand sex addicts have to pay for having sex? Let me tell you something that any stupid people would know, there are prostitutes in every country, even the country where you come from.

No I don't think that and thankyou for educating me about my home country. However I mentioned the words "I don't want to jump to any assumptions about Thailand" because I didn't want anyone thinking I was ignorant enough to think this way about the whole of Thailand and the expats populating it.

It is just my opinion of what happened to this man. You may think different but I was only sharing my opinion.

It's always amazing.

How come a doctor can be so assertive before to do some tests and proper examinations, and also by investigating the health history of this man ?

And also, "viagra overdose" doesn't mean anything...

-did he suffer from heart disease ?

-did he take the viagra with other products (like nitrate products for instance poppers that can lead to dangerous drops in blood pressure) ?

etc. etc.

As usual in Thailand, it's children level thinking : "oh look there is an empty viagra pack into the basket... there is a dead corpse on the bed... so as 1+1 = 5 this man is dead from an overdose of viagra".

It might be also a poor level in journalism.

We don't know the details of this case. When we are horny, some males take Kamagra, Viagra etc. It is great. You can get a superior night with your wife or with your "rented" girlfriend.

In FarangLand we are teached to take only ONE Viagra, prescribed by the Doctor. The pharmacies here say: Take two. Some people can, some can't take it. They just die on the hole. Sad.

Be careful when you are horny!

"Viagra, commonly prescribed by doctors to treat male erectile dysfunction, is turning up too often at the scene of heart attack death in relatively young men. Some men may be vulnerable to heart attack after taking this drug, made by Pfizer. "

Icemaiden, I think the doctor is going on the evidence the police found, he does'nt really know yet. I would say that the guy had a major stroke from elevated blood pressure; OR his main artery in his heart burst because of a weakened arterial wall, it which case death would be instant--no time to grip sheets. But in the case of a major stroke, he would have first undergone a tremendous headache. It which case he should reached for the wonder drug ASPRIN! :o

Viagra is killing off a lot of 40 to 50+ year old males.

If your dick aint hard there is a good reason for it.

Follow your body and you might live to play with your grandchildren.

If you dont believe me take it and see for yourself it just aint safe.

A lot of men die from taking it plain and simple, I will say once again.

Cheap sex turns out to be quite expensive.

Ahhhhhh Excuse me? "Heart failure is a progressive chronic disease and not of itself a cause of death." What school of medicine does this come from????

Heart Failure is a description, without cause........ Degenerative Heart failure is now a description with a cause. Another example "Congestive Heart failure".

Pending an autopsy, this will be probably be called a Hard-on heart failure. :o

Some of you people amaze me with your comments when you don't know sh1t. The doctor said it was most likely from a viagra overdose but an autopsy would still have to be performed. You lot don't know what the stomach meds were or if it was genuine viagra or what, and you're making all your own minds up of what happened. The Thai autorities have contacted his embassy and everything seems to be above board so far, so shut up with your stupid comments.

The man is dead and that is sad. I'm sure his family wouldn't be too happy to read the drible you are posting. My condolences to his family and friends.

i don't feel sorry for people who come to thailand just to screw and drink. i have nothing against screwing, but some farang you see at soi cowboy and pataya are very ugly to me. i think it is OK to come here and find a thai girl or boy for sex, as long as people have mutual respect and show kindness.

there is a whole world that exist here in thailand that has nothing to do with sex and drinking out there.

so my feeling on the dead farang is, just another casualty of the sex holiday industry, he should have made some better choices and used his mind some instead of his balls.

there are some very capable thai forensic pathologist in this country. overdoses amoung farang are very common here. it is easy to call people stupid from the bully pulpit and i wonder sometimes why people who think thai people are stupid choose to live here and what their point of reference is? is the point of reference their own superior intellect being from a western country? somehow to me you are missing the point here in thailand...
