Several injured in Istanbul, Turkey explosion

ISTANBUL, TURKEY (BNO NEWS) -- At least 7 people were injured during an explosion under an overpass bridge in Istanbul, Turkey, officials said Thursday.

Istanbul Police Chief Huseyin Capkin told Turkey's Anadolu news agency that an apparent bomb tied down to an electric bicycle in Istanbul's Etiler neighborhood, located in the district of Besiktas, exploded at around 9 a.m. local time near the Akmerkez shopping center.

Capkin said the explosion was of medium strength and that no group had claimed responsibility of the attack. The seven injured people were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where officials said three women and four men, between 23 and 55 years old were wounded.

According to reports, one of the injured women lost one of her legs and severely wounded the other.

Istanbul Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu strongly condemned the attack and the acts of terrorism, also confirming the number of injured.
