Pheu Thai to Campaign in Northeast

The Pheu Thai Party's top candidate is continuing her election campaigning in the Northeast.

Pheu Thai's top candidate Yingluck Shinawatra, whose support is strongest in the North and Northeast, is moving along with her party's election campaign on the large plateau, the Tung Kula Rong Hai, in Roi-et Province.

Yingluck told the gathering that the Pheu Thai Party would solve drought problems in the area by joining the 25 rivers and streams that flow pass the region.

She said that the project would help increase agricultural yields for farmers.

She also promised to carry on her brother, former prime minister Thaksin Shinwatra's policies to help people in the region so everyone's love and trust in him can be transferred to her.

Yingluck was welcomed warmly by the people in the area and many locals requested to have their photos taken with her, while others gave her flower garlands.

No Perilous Substance in Burnt Ship

Lamchabang Port authorities have announced that the cargo in the containers on a ship that burnt in a fire were not hazardous chemical substances.

Lamchabang Port Director Chalermkiat Salakkham gave his reassurances that no dangerous chemical substances were on the cargo ship that burst into flames a couple of days ago.

The cargo only had electrical equipment and materials for electrical motors on board.

He noted there were no reports of deaths or injuries.

Chalermkiat added that cargo on other piers was successfully relocated to safe places.

Witnesses said they saw the cargo ship go up in flames. Nineteen crew members were immediately evacuated from the ship.

Residents living in the area fled when they heard an explosion and saw flames shooting up from the vessel. There have been no reports of deaths or injuries.

JULY ELECTION

Banharn's turn at making prediction

By The Nation

Chart Thai Pattana chief adviser Banharn Silapa-archa on Friday made a prediction that his party would be indispensable for the next coalition formed by the winning party.

"Should there be no agreement on who should be the prime minister, I will nominate Sanan (Kachorprasart)," he said, asking reporters whether he would make headline like Newin Chidchob of Bhum Jai Thai Party.

Banharn said only the actual outcome of the July 3 votes could be the basis to negotiate the coalition formation.

Democrat Abhisit Vejjajiva may return for his second term or Pheu Thai's Yingluck Shinawatra may become the first female prime minister, he said, conceding a remote possibility for other potential nominations.

Should Pheu Thai win, ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra has yet to name his prime minister, he said.

He said he expected a narrow victory regardless of the winning party, hence his party would play a crucial role in forming the next government.

His party was ready to jump on the coalition bandwagon, he said, adding that his party's alliance with Bhum Jau Thai stayed intact.

He refused to reveal what his party would do if the winning party turned down Bhum Jai Thai.

He voiced confident, however, that his party would be on the coalition. Even if Pheu Thai won the majority, it would not repeat the same mistake of a single-party government following the 2004 general election, he said.
