It is after all personal choice. You didn't mention the alternatives, EVA, SQ, prices about Thai price-new planes.

Sounds like you would rather have the perks and poor aircraft. Turkish Airlines were sort of o.k. the last time I used them, this was Manchester-Bkk, average service only, not bad value for money. With them it was 8 hour+4hours-but as I say UAE airlines give so much more for so much less. The Sydney route TG use lease wide bodied newer aircraft. I would use Turkish for a change and have no worries, but the last time was 3 years ago.

Planning a trip to Europe, I was told that service on TK hasn't improved, to the contrary. Egyptair is now the recommendation for a Star-Aliiance airline to Europe. I have never used them, might be worth the experience.

Why direct flights to Brussels? Isn't Paris or Amsterdam near enough? Do peeps living in Cornwall or Snowdonia bleat about there not being direct flights to/from Plymouth or Caernarvon? Using the motorway system means that Paris and Amsterdam are not too far away.

The trend is away from the big hubs and the hub-and-spoke system, and towards direct flights to smaller destinations. A friend of mine is currently writing an academic paper about this.

I think that part of the equasion is also that most passengers don't actually fly to the big hubs, but continue to smaller airports (using the spokes). Landing fees at Brussels will certainly be cheaper than at Paris or Amsterdam, I'd think. So when my final destination is a smaller airport in Europe, I don't care whether I have to change planes in Paris or in Brussels, my total traveling time will be the same; but the cost for the airline will be lower.

Egyptair is considered of lower quality than of US Airways and SAS if one goes by the FF webboards. And that's pretty bad if you have ever experienced US Airways. . Food service, comfort, airport experience are all slammed by the PAX. Who wants to connect through Cairo? The catering out of Cairo makes Air Asia seem to offer a gourmet selection. Whatever TG's faults are, the onboard service and catering is significantly better than Egyptair and most North American carriers. Yes, the entertainment systems suck.Yes the seats are uncomfortable. However, the human component on TG is still there. I fly the beat up AB 330 and B777 configs between HKT and BKK and transfer to EVA or UA/ANA/AC for onward flights and I have no complaints to make about TG when compared to North American or European domestic carriers. Long ago I used to take the SR or SQ routings via ZRH, but the current pricing is often 2X the star alliance or EVA routing.

I agree, overall if it suited me I would go EVA, my reason for Emirates is Manchester. If south England EVA direct every time.

Who wants a direct flight from Bangkok to Brussels or Vienna when he can fly with Emirates to exciting places like Gatwick.

Any one of the 11 million Belgians wanting to travel to Thailand need to connect to Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai, Muscat, Cairo or Istanbul first.

Thai flying direct BKK-BRU might have a chance if they fly new planes with decent tariffs :whistling:

THAI Introduces Direct Flights from Bangkok to Brussels, Belgium

Looks like these services may be useful for avoiding the 'robbing' UK long haul APD (airport passenger duty)

Flying to Brussels from a provincial UK airport then a seperately booked TG flight - has anyone looked into the possible savings going this route from the UK?

Oil prices aside,I`m afraid the Gulf carriers in many cases simply offer passengers a more pleasurable in flight experience and a far wider choice of destinations. In the case of Emirates,Newcastle,Gatwick,Manchester,Glasgow - for hundreds of Pounds less.

The main reason I don't use Middle-East carriers is that they wake you up the moment you are sounds asleep, and then you have to walk around the airport like a zombie for 2-4 hours before being allowed to board again. No thanks, I use non-stop flights to Europe.

My major issues with TG are: 1. the entertainment system, and 2. the seats. The seats will be fixed (repaired, upholstered again), but I still have to see an eco class seat with an individual screen with video-on-demend.

Heck, last time I flew to Munich in business class I had to watch the main screen! Since then, I have avoided TG and wait for their new fleet. In the meantime, I clock up my miles on other Star Alliance airlines (SQ and OS are excellent).

Whatever suits you, if you don't mind aged aircraft and high prices and want to be in the south of England good for you.

If you want new aircraft room and up to date cabin stuff, along with a flight to your local airport go Emirates at far less cost. I don't mind being a zombie for 2 hours, getting circulation back to my body, It's healthier to have a break exactly half way home. What the hell is the point traveling Thai, if you live in the north of Scotland. ???.

Is Scotland that country where the people have short arms and deep pockets? That was told to me by an Englishman.

Being English I have heard the same, and we always say a Scottish man can hear a 5 pound note hit the floor B)

If walking around some Middle Eastern airport for several hours in the middle of the night is pleasurable to you.

I'd rather just get there.
