Torrents Slow

Is it just me or are torrents very slow today?

I am on 3BB Premiere, downloading very well seeded torrents at 3KB/s. Usually such torrents go at the full 500kbps.

Edit: My internet is otherwise fast as usual, example speedtest to BKK at 5Mbit, download from iTunes at 600kbps. Websites load fast.

Not just you. Torrents are slow on TOT.

Typically it is the content, and distance of seeders which causes issues. Maybe you could post a screenshot? Or share a .torrent? Are there a lot of seeders? Are they far away?

BT is a complex protocol; more often than not it is an issue with seeders and their relative distance from Thailand which contribute to slow speeds.

I got Treme, Breakout Kings and Game of Thrones at great speed today; TOT, and True in Bangkok.

I know torrents are complicated, but that's not it. I got lots of stuff yesterday with similar ratios as today, at the usual full line speed. I even did some other well seeded torrents for comparison - nothing is working today. They download, but very, very slowly...

Maybe it's something in my network but I suspect 3BB is suddenly throttling my torrents for whatever reason. It was actually going normal speed this morning, then suddenly stopped.

Ok mystery solved - apparently something about Transmission (the Mac bit torrent client). Never let me down so far, but I had this feeling something was wrong with it. I downloaded utorrent, and opened the exact same torrents I had running in Transmission... and.... speeds back to normal, full line speed!

In hindsight this makes sense as I tried to download these torrents on 3 different connections today, and it didn't work on any of them.

Ok, first time Transmission has failed me, but still. Unbelievable.

... 3B has been throttling. I complained over 3 days, eventually it came back up.

With Transmission, you gotta watch out for that little turtle down the bottom left corner, that will slow you right down.

Checking... no, the turtle was off, definitely. I can switch between Transmission and uTorrent, both downloading the same files, uTorrent flies, Transmission crawls. Definitely a bug in the client.

PS: I know 3BB is terrible on a normal line, but ever since I switched to Premier package, I didn't see any slowdown. It's 5Mbit 24/7, no throttling. As it should be for 2,500 baht... :jap:
