happyrobert
You're still on shutter Island though aren't you? I once bought some at Villa, but rarely see it lately. Same with Marmite, sometimes yes, sometimes no. Maybe someone's hoarding.

Willeyeam
You will find the English alternative Marmite - which can be dissolved in hot water to resemble Bovril at any of the Rimping stores...but a tiny jar will cost you 220 Baht! Yes, I know it is not an alternative, but it is as close as you will get - or - get a mate to send you some OXO. lazygourmet
Get a maid... Then, send her to the market to buy some bones, chuck roast and veggies... And then, if you are still interested, google: glace de viande

ballpoint
Marmite is a controlled substance in Denmark. http://us.cnn.com/20...mark/index.html As for Bovril, I'm always put off by the Billy Connelly joke that ends "... and we keep peeing in their Bovril". "I have to tell them it's illegal to sell it." a joke? but it's fact. sure many people don't like the taste. can't believe they banned my favorite food. Have they seen fermented fish from Cambodian and Japanese dried squid?? Edited June 1, 2011 by dunkin2012
Richard4849
So, I infer that Bovril is like Brand's Essence of Chicken -- except made with beef. Have I got that right? If so, sounds like a strange food to fixate over with so many other good things to eat in this world. But to each his own.

Rakers..old chap.....Last place I seen Bovril was at Villa opposite SCB park in BKK....they had 6 jars on shelf, along with Marmite and vegishite, but sorry to say I bought all 6 jars..... ..next time I am in there and see some I will get you a jar...promise.... As to the poster who suggested marmite in hot water is an acceptable alternative to Bovril...two words for you.....f*kcing heathen....
Gladiator
I am not sure if they have Rimpings Supemarket or equivalent in Bangkok - But this morning in the riverside Rimpings at Chiang Mai, Bovril was on the shelf 370 Baht for 125 gram bottle. At least it shows that it is still on the market
