Anyone recently - this week been to Tescos in Hang Dong?

I purchased some of that dreadful Nescafe 3-in one coffee, all the bags were tagged with what appeared to be Security tags, a black plastic clip on the side of the bag.

I thought it was strange to tag a 90 Baht bag of coffee, but what the hell.

I never noticed this coffee going through the checkout, but when I got home the black tag was still attached.

I never set any alarms off on the way out of Tesco, so I immediately thought it was some sort of gimmick from Nescafe, like a re-sealer or something.

Then I tried to open it - not a chance in hell! It seems it is a security tag, and Tesco are stupidly giving these away free with every bag of Nescafe, crazy or what, it has a grip so strong I cannot slide it out from the plastic packaging, I have tried screwdrivers and chisels, but this thing is not coming off - It probably costs more than the coffee - are these people dumb or what!

You're paying for it one way or another...

Anyway, if they are like what I have seen elsewhere they are not designed to be removed. They are passed over a device which deactivates them when they are scanned for purchase. And they cost just a few satangs ..so if they decrease theft by even a little, they are worthwhile.

No, Tesco's isn't stupid by a long shot.

Yes.

And try a pair of scissors for the plastic bag. :)

Not a problem, a pair of scissors is all you need, just seems like a stupid waste of money by Tesco.

Well, I would be surprised if these are a few Satangs, they could probably be used as a car lock or bike lock - they must cost more than the coffee! And I agree Tesco is not stupid, but the people running the Hang Dong Branch are, I can tell you a story or two about their rotten pork meat that they sell now and again and how they will try to cover their asses!

If it is rotten pork, I am not sure covering asses is the correct M.O

Let's be clear - Tesco Loyus is NOT TESCO.

End of.

It is Tesco Lotus and....

Established in 1998, Tesco Lotus was a joint venture of the Charoen Pokphand Group and Tesco, the British giant supermarket chain. However, facing criticism over the growth of hypermarkets in Thailand, the CP Group sold its shares in Tesco Lotus in 2003, though it did retain interest in Tesco Lotus in China (which operates under the Lotus name with Tesco being a separate chain)

Where in the world is Hang Dong?

just between San Phak Wan and Han Kaeo... why do you ask?

Because I am interested in geography. I assume that Hang Dong, San Phak Wan and Han Kaeo are in Thailand. Do happen to know in which province?
