Hello there

I have got lots of infos from this Forum so, I try to tell my story so others may eventually read and learn..

I am a naturalized Canadian citizen, 63, and I just got a O-A Retirement Visa from Vancouver, BC, Thai Consulate 2 weeks ago.

I did so WITHOUT having either a 60,000 monthly income and/or WITHOUT a combine 800,000 baht ( converted from Canadian Dollars ) in the Bank.

Here is how:

I do not have any of these money in the BANK ….but I do trade Stocks in American and Canadian Stock Markets. Don’t have too much cash inside these

Brokerage Houses ( less than $1,000.00 ) but my portfolio of stocks is a bit bigger than $34,000.00 as we speak.

So…I went and picked up an Application Kit and showed to this Consulate Reception girl ( Mary is her name - very nice person indeed ! ) my last 3 Monthly Statements pointing out if my application will be accepted based on this.

She said OK just go and do the rest of the forms, notarized etc..

1. Police Certificate …cost me $67.50 and waited out 5 weeks to arrive in the mail.

2. 3 photos paid $15.00

3. Notarized 4 forms ( 3 application plus one more form ). I paid $40.00 for all four. Just stamp and signature from a Public Notary.

4. Medical Certificate from my Family Doctor, paid zero. He only stamped there, wrote OK as I am free of TB etc,etc and signed.

5. My LAST Investment Monthly Statement. I highlighted with a yellow marker the Total Market Value of my portfolio…She did not accepted my last 3 statements but only the Last !

6. Application Fee of $65.00 for a single Entry.

Mary told me to wait exactly one week. Went there and picked up my passport in 7 days with a O-A Visa.

I also would like to mention …I did not showed Any plane tickets out of Canada as I did not buy anything yet. She asked me when I plan to be in Thailand and I said after July 15.

That was IT !

Hei guys, I love this Forum !

If you go to the RCMP, you should be able to get that police certificate within about ten minutes, and it's free.

The notarized forms can often be signed, again free, by someone in your bank.

Chuck: (Sometimes) each embassy handles the visa requiment slightly different - when my partner applied for his retirement visa the honorary consulate didn't even ask for a police report. However when you apply for extension of stay in one year, you will need to proof one of the following:

60K in monthly income or 800K in a local Thai Bank (3 months minimum).

The requirement is 65k income not 60k. I suspect he did not apply or receive a retirement visa (non immigrant O-A) if no police report was asked as it is a requirement. But a one year multi entry non immigrant O visa could be issued. That would require leaving the country every 90 days or less until extending for retirement at immigration.

Lopburi: Oops yes 65K not 60K.... No police report was required when my partner received his O-A visa from the Honorary consulate in Bali... but this was 6 years ago. at the time I also got my Non-O based on visiting friends. I did this two years in the row and on the 3rd year, they said No Can Do :-).
