Partner wants to bring in a few bottles of wine for holiday. What would the consequences be at Bangkok airport if found when walk through green section? Might depend on who searches and best way to handl;e it if they do. Any ideas??

1 litre is permitted duty free per person.

There is no system to pay duty on any excess like in other countries.

Consequences of being caught? - Fine of 10X the dutiable amount, confiscation and possible prison / deportation.

Prison nah wont happen for wine carried in your luggage. Chances are all they would do is take the excess and drink it that night at the karaoke - even tho they don't like it.

As said, one bottle or litre (I can't remember ) per person, however, just for general knowledge, Thailand is one a handful of countries that allows you to use up the litre wine allowance on other passengers travelling in the same group.

ie: a man travelling with his child and two nephews after a short holiday abroad is allowed to bring 4 bottles (litres) of wine through customs by allocating one bottle to each of the children. :)

Unfortunately, you are right on. I've been trying to locate the recent article discussing reforming the customs department due to this....no pre-determined penalty. So, it's up to the official. I just read about a guy who brought in 4 sleves of cigarettes and was fined 28,000B. I'm sure prison/deportation was suggested at some point during the "discussions".

I also have traveled through with over the limit of alcohol many times, but it's a risk until they get customs under control.

provided the children are over the legal age to consume alcohol (ie. 20)

Nope - I specifically asked that question, and there is no age limit for alcoholic duty free items.

(the above example is me.)
