I apllied and received a 1 year Marriage Visa in June of 2010 at the Udon Thani Immigration office.

I have now moved to Sobbong, Phusang and went to the Mae Sai immigration office with all the same Documents to renew my Visa.

They said that I now require the British Marriage Certificate stamping in the Brtish Consulate office in Chiang Mai.

On a similar subject the Mae Sai immigration also say that I require the same stamp on the Birth Certificates of my 2 children.

Can someone confirm that this is now the case and that the stamp can be obtained at the Chiang mai Consulate office?

Help :bah:

Are you married to a Thai?

The normal procedure now is to have the marriage abroad certified at the mebassy, have it translated into Thai and than certified bu the Thai Foreign mministry, consular section. With the certified papers you go to any amphur and have the mariage recorded there. Of this recording you ask for a cpy of the ledger, the Khor Rhor 2 form to give to immigration.

Your marriage is now also officially recorded in Thailand.

By allowing the marriage certificate to be just stamped by the British Consulate immigration is very friendly.

Hi Mario,

Will have to jump through the embassy translation/registratyion hoops etc later as I need to get my Visa soonest as i am now into overstay.

Yes married to a Thai but only in the UK. Did not have to have Marriage Certificate Stamped for initial application in 2010.

Can you confirm that the British Consulate in Chiang Mai can stamp the Certificate.

Hi All,

Just to close this thread.

Went to Chaig Mai British Consulate. As stated by "pschef" the ladies were very, very helpful. They had to check up with Bangkok about the Birth Certificates but came up with a very good and money saving solution.

Used the trip as a sight seeing event for the kids (3 and 20 months) so went to Maesa Elephant Camp, the Zoo, Doi Suthep etc... etc..

Turns out they can no longer stamp Marriage or Birth Certificates but they will produce a standard "Affirmation" document that you fill out and they stamp and sign.

They produced a special affirmation to cover my 2 childrens birth certificates instead of one document for each so saving me about £60 (thats about 2 rounds of Golf) or (lots of beers).

As we all know Consulate letters are not cheap and each Affirmation cost me 2860 Baht.

Assuming they will not move the Goal Posts for next year I should be able to use the Affirmation letters again without going through the Translation scenario.

Still cannot understand why they give my kids an instant Visa for 12 months but insist on making me wait for 1 month for a descission.

If I leave so do the kids.... Oh well TIT.

Mal.
