Phuket: Myanmar Worker Drowns While Collecting Money from Krathongs
An incident occurred in the early hours of November 16, when a Myanmar worker drowned while attempting to collect money from a krathongs during the Loy Krathong festival in Bang Maluan Park, Choeng Thale Subdistrict, Thalang District. Emergency responders from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation were dispatched to the scene around 02:45 along with a team of four divers. After approximately 20 minutes of searching, they recovered the body of a man, believed to be a migrant worker from Myanmar aged between 35 and 40. The victim was found submerged at a depth of four metres, wearing a black short-sleeved t-shirt and khaki shorts. Eyewitnesses reported that the victim was seen walking along the edge of the pond using a stick to probe for krathongs left floating in the water. One witness described seeing the man climb onto a large foam-based krathong designed as a mythical Naga serpent, measuring about 50-60 cm in diameter. “While sitting on the Naga-shaped krathong, it overturned, causing him to fall backward into the water,” the witness recalled. “At first, we thought he was playing, but then we saw him waving his hands frantically for help before disappearing beneath the surface. We immediately called the authorities.” Authorities believe the victim lost his balance and drowned after the krathong capsised. Father and Daughter Killed, Son Critically Injured in Pickup Truck Crash
A crash occurred on Sukhumvit Road in Rayong Province on the evening of November 15, claiming the lives of a father and his teenage daughter, while his son was critically injured. The family was on their way to visit the children’s grandmother at the hospital when their white Toyota Hilux Vigo pickup truck rear-ended a trailer carrying longans. The incident was reported to police at 21:00. Officers from the Pe Police Station and rescue teams from the Sawang Porngkuson Foundation arrived at the scene, located 300 metres past Ban Phe’s traffic lights toward Rayong City. At the scene, the pickup truck was severely damaged. The driver, a 44-year-old man identified as Mr. Tai, was found dead inside the vehicle. His 16-year-old son, seated in the front passenger seat, was critically injured and rushed to Rayong Hospital. Tragically, the 14-year-old daughter, seated in the rear cab, also succumbed to her injuries as she was being extricated from the wreckage, having suffered a severe head wound and fractured skull. Mr. Waranchit, a 29-year-old neighbour of the family, shared that the victims lived near Wat Thammasathit, about 10 kilometres from the crash site. The father was taking his children to visit their grandmother, who was hospitalised. Waranchit, who was dining nearby, heard the crash and rushed to the scene, only to be shocked upon recognising his neighbour’s vehicle. The truck driver, Mr. Chamnarn 58, explained that he had parked his trailer on the roadside to relieve himself. As he was about to re-enter his vehicle, he saw the pickup truck driver lose control, veer toward the median strip, and swerve back, colliding with the trailer’s tail end. The victims’ mother, who had stayed behind due to work commitments, arrived at the scene in tears. Upon seeing her husband and daughter’s lifeless bodies, she broke down and fainted. Relatives revealed that she had finished work at 20.00 and was unable to accompany the family. Factory in Free Zone Caught Operating Illegally After Closure Order
Authorities have uncovered illegal operations at a factory in a designated free zone in Chachoengsao Province, more than a year after it was ordered to cease activities. The Ministry of Industry has pledged to pursue legal action to the fullest extent. On November 15, Mr. Ekanat Promphan, Minister of Industry, dispatched an inspection team led by Ms. Thitiphat Chotidetchaichanan, his chief of staff. The team included officials from the Department of Industrial Works (DIW), the Ministry of Industry Inspectorate Division, police from the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NRECD), the Customs Department, and Chachoengsao’s provincial industrial office. The team inspected P.C. Wood Products Co., Ltd., a facility in Plaeng Yao District that processes imported materials for export. Despite an official closure order issued in May 2023 for violating regulations under the Factory Act B.E. 2535, the factory was found operating illegally. The factory had been ordered to cease operations on May 25, 2023, after failing to comply with licensing requirements. However, during the inspection, authorities discovered it had resumed activities, including the unauthorized installation of machinery and continuous operations. Mr. Sarun Klin Sawat, managing director of P.C. Wood Products Co., Ltd., was arrested at the scene. He admitted to the violations and was charged with operating without proper authorisation. Mr. Ekanat emphasised the importance of strict monitoring of high-risk factories, even in free zones, which benefit from privileges such as tax exemptions. “No factory is exempt from compliance with the law, regardless of its location or privileges,” he said. Ms. Thitiphat added that the company had blamed delays in the licensing process but had made no real effort to meet the required standards over the past year. Instead, the factory had expanded operations and resumed production, knowing it was illegal. “This is a clear violation of the law, and claims of delays in the approval process hold no weight,” she said. “We will ensure the case is prosecuted to prevent environmental and community harm in the future.” Authorities have vowed to take further legal action to hold the violators accountable and prevent similar incidents. Teenager Stabbed in Violent Altercation Following Minor Traffic collision in Chonburi
A minor traffic incident escalated into violence in the early hours of November 16, in Bang Saen, Chonburi Province, leaving two teenagers seriously injured after being stabbed. The altercation occurred in front of a convenience store on Bang Saen Beach Road near Wonnapha Beach. At approximately 00:40 police from Saen Suk Police Station and rescue teams from the Tri Khunatham Foundation responded to reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they found a 17-year-old, identified as Mr. Pat with a stab wound under his left rib cage, and a 16-year-old, identified as Mr. Det, with a stab wound to his abdomen. Rescue workers administered first aid before transporting the victims to Burapha University Hospital. According to Ms. A (alias), the younger sister of one of the victims, the incident began when an elderly man driving a car accidentally reversed into several motorcycles parked in front of the convenience store. Her brother approached the driver to request contact information for repairs, but the situation quickly turned hostile. The driver allegedly exited his vehicle and grabbed her brother by the neck, pushing him to the ground. When another teenager intervened to help, the driver's son reportedly emerged from the car, brandishing a knife. A physical altercation ensued, during which both teenagers were stabbed. The attackers then fled the scene in their vehicle. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and plan to interview the injured victims once their conditions stabilise. Motorcycle Crash Leads to Fatality in Sriracha, Chonburi
A crash occurred on the Nong Kham-Nong Leng Road in Sriracha, Chonburi, when a motorcycle rider lost control and crashed into a pickup truck, leading to the rider’s death. The incident was reported to the Nong Kham Police Station in Sriracha at around 15.00 on November 16. The motorcycle, a black Yamaha, was speeding and failed to navigate a sharp curve before crashing into an Isuzu pickup truck. The impact sent the rider, identified as 52-year-old Sutthin Kusita, flying through the air. His body landed on the hood of the truck, then fell to the ground and was dragged by the vehicle for some distance. The driver of the pickup truck, 47-year-old Kasem, stopped at the scene and waited for police. He explained that he was driving from the Nong Kham area when the motorcycle, traveling at high speed, suddenly veered into his path and struck the front of his vehicle. The collision caused the rider to be thrown onto the truck’s hood before falling to the road. In a state of shock, Kasem said he accidentally accelerated, dragging the body off the road and into a nearby field, where it was discovered underneath the vehicle. The victim was confirmed dead from neck injuries and multiple abrasions. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the crash. Sutthin’s body was transferred to the Laem Chabang Hospital for an autopsy. Meanwhile, Kasem was taken into custody for questioning as police continue their investigation. Giant Python Over Four Metres Long Captured in Aranyaprathet Restaurant
A massive python, stretching over four metres in length, was captured inside the Pa Nong rice porridge restaurant in the heart of Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. The snake’s appearance caused a commotion among local residents, leading to the intervention of a team of rescue volunteers from the Aranyaprathet Rescue Foundation. On November 15, Mr. Buntham Anusit, head of the foundation’s Eastern Region Snake Team, reported that they had been receiving daily requests to remove snakes, particularly pythons and boa constrictors, in the Aranyaprathet area. The district’s proximity to water sources, public forests, and agricultural fields makes it a frequent habitat for snakes that often wander into nearby communities, attracted by small animals and livestock. In this latest incident, the team received a call from Mr. Sawat Rujinern, the 50-year-old owner of the Pa Nong rice porridge restaurant. He described how the snake, about as thick as an average person’s leg, had entered his establishment, causing considerable alarm among onlookers. He shared that he first became aware of the snake after a neighbour spotted it slithering into the restaurant from the west side, likely coming from nearby forested areas. “It’s the largest snake I’ve ever seen enter the restaurant,” Mr. Sawat remarked. “We’ve had small snakes before, but nothing of this size.” Thanks to the combined efforts of multiple rescue team members, the snake was safely captured and will be relocated to a natural habitat. Teenager Tragically Killed in Phayao Car-Motorcycle Collision
A collision occurred in Chiang Kham District, Phayao, in the early hours of November 16, when a 16-year-old boy was killed after he was hit by a car after the driver had lost control. The Siam Phayao Foundation, located in Chiang Kham District, received a distress call around 01:50 alerting them to the incident in Chiang Ban Village, Moo 3, Chiang Ban Subdistrict. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene and found the teenager unconscious and unresponsive. According to rescue personnel, the young victim had fallen off his motorcycle, in an area of road construction, with no other vehicle involved. As he sat on the side of the road awaiting for medical response, a car came around the corner, with the driver losing control and the car rolled onto its roof on top of the youth. The casualty suffered severe head injuries after the car struck him and pinned his body underneath. Despite their best efforts, including the use of hydraulic rescue tools to raise the car and first aid, the victim was declared dead at the scene. The Siam Phayao Foundation personnel also administered initial first aid to the car driver who had remained at the scene and only sustained minor injuries The local police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and the car driver was taken to the police station for questioning.
