Hi,I'm from Nepal, in tourist visa, looking for job in Bangkok. I have Thai wife with a three-year old kid and currently in process for registering our marriage. I'm new in this whole legal process of Thailand about Non-Immigration Visas and work permit things so I prefer to consult thaivisa.com before deciding anything. I would like to know if I need to go back to my country to change my visa to Non-Immigrant and return here for work permit or I can do it all here without flying anywhere else? Also is it better to get Non-Immigrant visa through some company and get work permit or get the non-immi. visa registering with my wife? What are the differences in these two? Is it a lengthy process to get non-immi. visa?thanx for the answer.

First off, I must say, your written English is extremely good!

If you are over 50 retirement extension of stay, but need to have 800.000 bt in a Thai bank account or 65,000 bt pension or independent funds per month, or combination of both, (it maybe less for a Nepalese citizen - need to check).

If you go with marriage extension, 400,000 in a Thai bank account.

Education visa, study Thai, around 30,000 for the lessons, but you may need to return to your homeland to get that one, the others, you could probably fix up in a neighbouring country. It depends what your visa status is before applying also.

You can convert your visa to a non-immirgant visa if you can show 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand in your name for at least 2 months OR can show an income of 40,000 a month (can be from abroad).

If not, you have to go to another country to get a non-O visa. In Kuala Lumpur one can get a mutiple non-O on proof of marriage and 100,000 in the bank (does not have to be in Thailand).

Also, to get a work permit you will first need a job or job offer. Then the company you work for will/shall provide you with the proper paper work to go to a Thai Conulate outside of Thailand to get q non-B visa. When you return with that visa the company can then apply for a Work Permit for you. That is the only way you can work legally here unless you set up your own company and get your own WP.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I'm only 28 and had no idea of the funds I need to have for the process of this visa. Is there no other solution to stay here, get registered and get a non-immi. visa other than to have deposit of 400,000 in Thai bank account? I tried to ask my embassy about the child support visa but they denied any knowledge of this kind. I'm trying to gather as much information as I can but, still confused!!!!

100,000 in the bank to support a Thai child from a Thai embassy.

30,000bt to study Thai - 1 year visa.

Child or Wife both require 40k income or 400k in bank account for one year extension of stay. Non immigrant visa entry for 90 days is available without this (but does require 20k in cash) and 60 day extensions are available on any entry type. Another option is multi entry non immigrant O visa for unlimited entry of up to 90 days for one year period. KL will issue with proof of marriage and 100k in an account somewhere. Some other Consulate may issue without or refuse to issue more than one entry.

Hi,

I like the idea of having income of 40,000/month but do I need to show them any funds wired in my name or only the proof of salary is enough?

thanks

If the income is from abroad, you will need a letter from your embassy confirming your income. Your embassy decides what will count as proof.

There is no requirement t wire the salary into Thailand.

We are buying a small business which will be in my wife"s name. 9 months from now I will need to extend the visa but I alos wish to have a work permit for my wife's business( pizza parlor). What are my best options??

Thanks

There is no such thing as a marriage visa so that must be a multi entry non immigrant O (other) visa?

A new business will not allow extensions of stay even if you can become an employee and obtain a work permit (which may also be a problem as your salary may be more than total income to qualify for extension of stay). Others may be able to provide possible work titles.

To just obtain a new visa as you currently have a trip to KL and show of 100k in bank account is likely the easiest option.

Unless you can show 400,000 baht in a bankaccount in Thailand in your name only. Then you would qualify for an one year extension of stay based on your Thai family.

As said, for an extension of stay you based on employement you need to earn 50,000 a month (40,000 a month if based on your marriage). But the problem is that you need to show tax papers for that from the company over the last two years. So the company will have to be at least 2 years old till you can use this way.

If you can meet the financial requirements, I believe you'd be better off getting the extension to support your wife.

You can get a work permit on that kind of extension, and if you lose your job, the visa/extension is not cancelled like it would be with a 'B' extension.

"Also, to get a work permit you will first need a job or job offer. In the past some consulates wanted to see that a WP had already been applied for prior to issuing a 'B' visa.

You would get a form WP3 from the labor office showing that a WP has been applied for. Once you have the visa, return to the labor office to get the WP.

You can get a WP and work legally with a Non Imm 'O' visa/extension based on a wife.
