Hi,

Im making plans on visiting Bangkok and Buri Ram..please tell me if this is possible....

Fly Thursday evening to Bangkok, then Friday morning go to the Embassy for my Affirmation to Marry, then go to the Ministry to register it...Im a little confused here...do I need to go to the ministry to register the affirmation to marry document or when I go to the ministry is it to register the marriage? I plan on going to the embassy in the morning, getting the letter to marry, then going to Buri Ram and come back to Bangkok sunday, for my return fight to phuket where I would return to work Monday Morning.

If I go to the embassy and get the affirmation to marry, can I hold on to it and then marry in Phuket? And is there a local ministry in phuket?

Thanks

You do not register anything at the Ministry. You get your "affirmation to marry" get it translated, then take it to the Ministry (MFA), there it is registered and stamped, this you take with you to get married at the Amphur.

If you give the letter in at the Embassy it will be available for collection in the afternoon of the same day, but you will have to get the thing translated, then at the MFA it is gonna take more than half a day to get done, suggest you recalculate your schedule allowing 3 days for everything.

You go to the embassy to get the embassy letter. This letter you have to get translated into Thai by a translation agency. Next you go to the Thai Foreign Ministry, Consular Section, to have the letter and translation legalized. Once this is done you can visit any amphur in Thailand with your GF to get married.

The transation agency can take care of the Thai Foreign Ministry part for you and send it to your home address.

I believe same day translation now have to be submitted before noon.

Translation should be about 300-400 baht, legalisation 400 baht (or 800 baht if same day service).

Don't forget the costs at the Embassy.

Get to embassy 8.30 give in paperwork and pay

2750 bht go back 2.00 pick up paperwork got one of the thai people out side embassy to do translation cost 200 bht

Next day go ministry foreign affairs again 8.00 pay 800 bht and I was out off there 11.30 same day

There is a post on here by Ruth that gives all details and insructions

Good luck

Don't forget you have to print off the affirmation and fill ot in from the embassy website first I filled in a few wrong bits and simply got 1 off the agents across the road to reprint mine for me cost another 200 bht

The agents will take care off the ministry part for you but want around 2500 bht not worth it in my opinion as said it only takes 3 hrs and 800 bht at foreeign ministry

If your not bothered too much about the romance and just want the legal bit done quick, the company outside will do everything for you in one day, thats getting the affirmation, the ceremony, and two copies of marriage certs in English and Thai, cost approx 6k....that includes all the taxis etc so not a bad price considering you save on hotels, travelling etc

How. Can they do it in 1 day if you can't get your paperwork back from embassy till 2 o'clock in the afternoon

If you want to stick to your timescale do the british embassy bit yourself then when you finish at embassy at 2 in the afternoon go into the shopping centre across the road and they will take care of the rest at a cost off around 2500 bht they will then send paperwork back to youraddress and you can get married in Phuket or where ever you like

today early morning i am in the mfa for legalization of my papers. if you go early morning they will give your papers at 1:00 pm if you want the papers same day you have to go there before 12:00. i would recommend you to translate the papers near mfa. there are too many people asking you for translate. sometimes translations need correction if you do near mfa they can correct in 20 minutes. legalization cost 200 baht for 100 words if more than 100 words 200 baht per page. if you need same day service you have to pay 2 times more.

Money speaks many languages, especially Thai...thats how it can be done in one day....I know a few that have ok

EDIT....although the money here only needs to speak English...get my drift ;)

UK embassy takes most of the day to get the affirmation in English, if you're quick, you can go straight to the MFA, BTS to Mo Chit and 120 baht in a taxi, get the translation done on the ground floor 200 baht, go upstairs and see the people at the front desk, who send you to the supervisor who sends you back, take a ticket and wait for 3 hours.

I reckon you're best bet is to allow at least 2 days for it all to be done.

I did it last month and we took our time and did it in 4 days.

And no, there's only one MFA and it's in Bangkok, Chaeng Wattana

Before marrying in Thailand you must hire a PI and do a background check on her. Expecially if she is from Buriram in Isan territory. Most of these girls are still married to Thai men. You will become his benefactor and look after his kids schooling.Your {lady} wont tell you anything you dont want to hear.

No need for that they check to see if she has been married before, in Bangkok MFA records, most haven't they only have done the Monk thing.

If his been married before himself he will need the letter from the court of what ever country he belongs to.

Also be careful of companies willing to do it all for you some are bogus there is usually a warning about it in the Embassy's, well it is in the British one.

Its not just the probability thai women are still married to thais when they marry middle aged and elderly farangs. Alot of these Isan families have serious gambling and other debts which are 'called in ' immediately it becomes known that a generous farang has entered the scene. In aplace like Buriram they will probably have a man or 2 in prison needing financial support.Buriram is very poor so If they live in rubbish homes the farang will be expected to build new ones in their compound. farang will also be hit for sin sot 100,000 - 1 million.Old german men pay the latter. Its a huge scam. The girl(family) has already had sinsot from her first husband. Its likely she was married to another thai boy before giving up. farangs are taken for a ride here. They pay for everything. They even have to sponsor her when she goes to Europe otherwise she cant leave Thailand. Farangs marry damaged goods.Nothing less.

I'm sorry you have such a dark view of this area of Thailand I would imagine it to be no worse or better than all other certain areas of any province within Thailand.

As for the quote " generous Farang statement " unquote, it will be up to him what he decides to do, someone from what ever country termed Farang doesn't have to pay sin-sot, doesn't have to pay any of her or family debts, build for the family unless he wants to, scam has nothing to do with it, unless he is a complete idiot.

It is also untrue that all Thai first husbands pay sin-sot.

Quote " Farang's marry damaged goods. Nothing less " unquote, is another very narrow minded view, you sound very bitter and have probably been taken for a ride or know someone who has, that was your problem or his and has nothing to do with marrying a Thai lady or any other countries ladies for that matter.

I don't have a dark view of Thai people but i am highly suspicious of all these girls (mostly isan) who marry European men older enough in most cases to be her father or even grandfather.Farangs rarely marry affluent educated middle class bangkok women for obvious reasons. They marry impoverished girls who they have nothing in common with expect for mutually failed marriage histories. I have had Isan girls rent rooms from us here in bangkok.Their husbands send them to Pattaya,HuaHin and Phuket mostly in the high season Nov to Feb.Their main aim is to make money and go home to their family and kids. Ive asked this Q many times. What if a farang you meet in the bars asks you to live with him or even marry and go live in germany/switzerland? They usually shrug their shoulders and say nothing or they giggle and say " I will marry him if he has money" Her husband and family will encourage her to do so. You could be right about not all thai's paying sin sot.Its highly overrated. sinsot is usually about 20,000 baht for the average provincial Thais if they have the money. The really serious sin sot kicks in big time when a boy from a wealthy family wants to marry a beautiful isan girl....maybe 1-2million baht plus a home is not unusual. That partly goes to her mum and pop.,if she has any.Dont get me wrong about Thais. Most of the people i socialise with are Thais .You should hear what thai men say about their women.frightening stuff. Most farang are out of their depth. As for girls still having thai husbands and boyfriends when hunting for farang prey in the bars.Well sadly its true because ive met them many times. How easy is it to get married here .Too easy.

The guys OP gives little info apart from he wants to get marry and get back to work in Phuket, maybe when he sees the MIL he may change his mind.

I suppose in our little Sukhothai village here we don't get to see or hear of as many things that you must do living in Bangkok.

I would believed what you say about Isan girls happening but there are rich ones as well, maybe they have a high proportion of poor people, I still wouldn't be surprised about any girl from any part of Thailand doing the same thing if she didn't mind especially if she was poor, lets say Chiangmai e.g.

This is some interesting reading which in some way explains and separate's them from other parts of Thailand. quote:-

Since the beginning of the 20th century, north eastern Thailand has been officially known as Isan, Issan, Isaan, Isarn or Esarn term adopted from Sanskrit I shan, meaning in a "north east direction." The term " Isan " was derived from Isanapura, the capital of the Chenla kingdom. The Lao - speaking population of the region, who comprise the majority, distinguish themselves not only from the Lao of Laos but also from the central Thailand by calling themselves Khon Isan or Thai Isan. The Khmer - speaking minority and Kuy (Suai) who live in the south of Isan speak dialects and follow customs more like those of Cambodia than either the Thai people or the Lao people.

Bangkok people often refer to them as Isan-Lao.Sometimes ive seen Thais put their middle fingers together at press down on the palm like youre needing the rice. kao-niow. Its not meant to be complimentary either.

Seems all your replies are based on feramg marrying prostituted half there age sure ether is other motives in these marriages but just for the record not all fearing marry prostitute or girls half there age you really shouldn't pigeon hole every thai girl or feramg thai marriage into one box
