In fact, there are coupons for almost everything you can imagine – great restaurants, luxurious hotels and spas and even retailers. However, when you purchase a coupon that entitles you to a fifty percent discount, is it really worth fifty percent? Particularly for restaurant deals, even though a coupon claims to be a “fifty percent” savings, in many cases it is not. Take the popular restaurant coupon for example. It states “fifty percent off” so you assume that you will pay half of what you would normally pay. Not true. Why? Mainly because most coupons have very specific terms and limitations. In other words, these are called “Shortage Coupons”. Assume a customer purchases a 250 Baht coupon worth 500 Baht in a particular restaurant. If the average bill is somewhere between 1000–1500 per person in this restaurant, that means the coupon will only result in a twenty-five percent savings off the total bill. In reality, only if the customer can somehow manage the keep the total bill at or below 500 Baht would this result in a fifty percent savings. It is possible to do, but more than likely, the restaurant experience would have to be limited to one or two dishes, not a complete meal. Another deceiving coupon is the “Surplus Coupon” which also claims to offer fifty percent off. For instance, the 900 Baht coupon worth 2000 Baht in a restaurant. It appears to be a fifty one percent discount from 2000 Baht. Sounds great right? Not really. If the average total bill for this restaurant is between 1000-1500 Baht, it would be difficult to spend 2000 Baht per person. Therefore, the customer would really only receive a ten percent discount off the total bill and would have to pay extra for drinks. The bottom line? Pay attention to the terms and conditions of the deal coupons that are available today. Read carefully and make sure you truly understand what the specific conditions are and how they affect your purchase. However, if you are careful and smart, it is possible to enjoy terrific savings.
