Thai PM Abhisit Says Cambodian Spy Escapes

This situation beggars belief. Where were they detained, in a cardboard box?

Were they in the custody of the military or the police?

There is another possibility that is quite sinister, the cambodian could have been killed during interrogation, so it would be better to say he escaped, whats the betting he doesn't turn up in cambodia? <_<

I am not much for conspiracy theories, but you might be on to something with that statement. I would think, however, they would just shoot him and say he was trying to escape.

Cambodia can't say anything either way (if they are wise).

They can say a lot - if it is him that is gone after meeting with console - where is he - prove he escaped. You got video at detention fac?. who was on watch? - what did they see? If he got out they really got to explain where is the guy you are responsible for. He better pop up in Cambodia or it is an issue - they had last custody of the body habeas corpus

The problem for Cambodia is that they refuting the claim of spying. If the escapee is a military man, and they say anything, they are roughly acknowledging the espionage charge. At a minimum, they will be lending credence to the Thai accusation of spying.

If a military man was in the area, what was he doing, if not spying?

The news report said "the investigation has indicated that the Cambodian colonel has already left Thailand and returned to Cambodia through the Aranyaprathet Border Pass in Sa Kaeo Province..." Did he actually go through a border checkpoint? Did he enter Thailand on a passport and exit the same way?

Also, the Vietnamese and the Thai suspects are suspicious. How did this group get together? Why would Cambodia hire/have a Vietnamese spying for them in Cambodia?

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Thursday said he has received a report that a Cambodian spy has escaped and that the incident confirmed that Thailand did not fabricate the spy case.

I will miss Abhisit, MPhil Oxf, and his sharp intellect.

Thank you !!!

The way things are shaping up, was there really any spies. Was there really any one caught. Was there really any evidence and James Bond gear found. Marked maps of bunkers for civillians?

The Cambodian spy escaped while his captors were group planking.

Interesting that no one is interested as to how this guy managed to escape after 10 days of captivity, that too with all the gathered intel.

Yep, I buy it.

THAI-KHMER TIES

Arrest warrant out for Cambodian spy

By The Nation

A Cambodian army officer, who went on the run recently, now faces an arrest warrant over espionage charges, Si Sa Ket Governor Somsak Suwannasujarit said yesterday.

The man, identified as Ya Pao or Wichai, is believed to be a colonel attached to the Cambodian army's intelligence corps. He was one of the men arrested last week for allegedly supplying Cambodia with details of Thai military installations and shelters. The other two alleged spies, currently in court custody, are a Thai and a Vietnamese.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva admitted that the Cambodia suspect had escaped, but added that an investigation was underway and that Thai military had no problem handling national defence despite the escape.

Meanwhile, a senior Vietnamese diplomat has contacted the prison authorities in Kantharalak district to visit suspect Wiang Teng Yang, but an approval from the military is still pending. The Second Army Area, which is in charge of all military operations in the Northeast, is coordinating with the Foreign Ministry over the request.

A media website, quoting a Voice of America report, said the Cambodian army was now recruiting 5,000 reservists. However, a military spokesman said this was a routine operation, and had nothing to do with the armed conflicts with Thailand.
