Thai General Election

Featured Replies

What is the date of the general election in Thailand.

Do Thai citizens overseas need to register to vote at a Thai embassy in the country they live in?

Thanks

3rd July 2011.

For registration information, I suggest contacting the Royal Thai Embassy in the country where you live.

My wife rang the Thai Embassy in Sydney. She was told she should have registered last month to have her name marked of the list in Thailand and that she could have voted this month on the 18th and 19th of this month. So TOO late they told her. I think it is a load of bulls**t. Why cant she vote in the next couple of days as the election is not intil the 3rd of next month. I smell a rat. What havent they heard of aeroplanes to send the voted home. if this is the case all over the world, there will be hundreads of thousands of Thai's that can't vote. :shock1:

No I am not forgetting that, I mentioned, that is where she rang, the THAI Embassy. I still say there is no slow boat to Thailand.

I really dont. I can probably say the same about you. But my wife is Thai and she does care and probably a lot of other Thai's overseas care, this is why I was informing them or their husbands who do read the TVF.:whistling:

Requiring people to register in advance does not at all sound unreasonable, especially for absentee ballots.

For Thais that are registered at the embassies overseas, emails were sent out back in January, which you had to reply confirming that you would be overseas during the anticipated election. The email said you had to register by May if you wanted to vote. A form was attached which you needed to complete and include your passport number or national IDcard number along with personal information.

In June, they sent out a link from the khonthai website, so you could check your registration status and eligibility to vote.

Ballots were sent out last week. You fill the 2 out (one for your riding and one for the national party) and send them back in the prepaid envelope that is enclosed.

And yes, registration was early. It always has been.
