Mubarak's daughters-in-law banned from travel

2011-06-17 03:40:19 GMT+7 (ICT)

CAIRO (BNO NEWS) -- The Egyptian justice ministry's Illicit Gains Authority on Thursday imposed a travel ban on two daughters-in-law of ousted President Hosni Mubarak, Ahram online reported.

Heidy Rassekh and Khadiga El-Gammal, the wives of Mubarak's sons Alaa and Gamal respectively, along with their children Omar Alaa and Farida Gamal, were prevented from leaving the country pending further investigation. Both women have already been interrogated over charges of illegal profiteering.

Mubarak's sons and a host of former government officials are currently being held in Tora Prison on multiple charges of corruption. Mubarak, 83, is being held in Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital in light of his deteriorating health.

His wife, Suzanne, was detained for a period in the same hospital, but was released after several days. She is banned from travelling abroad also.

Mubarak ruled Egypt in a 30-year-long regime which began in 1981. He stepped down this year after weeks of anti-government protests by crowds calling for greater democracy and respect of human rights.

An Egyptian court announced that Mubarak will stand trial for corruption and murder charges on August 3.
