hi,

planning a long weekend on the beach with my two young kids (1 & 4 yrs boys) and missus.

we're thinking of driving ourselves and are looking for somewhere in reasonable driving distance from pak chong which is(2hrs NE of BKK).

looking at the rayong/samet area but wouldn't rule out the pattaya area if the beach was clean and useable or indeed going over to cha-am/hua-hin.

looking for a nice quiet resort with all amenities and a nice beach - anything additional to amuse the kids would be a bonus.

without sounding flash - cost isn't an issue, infact somewhere with a bit of luxury would be preferable.

any suggestions?

Try Bann Pan Thai on the beach of Cha-am. a small but very beautifull resort in the middle of Cha-am, bungalows or hotelrooms around a ver y big and nice swimmingpool, close to everything

I met the owners of this resort at a party a few weeks ago. Really nice couple. Thai/farang. He's been here 35 years.

What I liked was their comments about how quiet it is there with great beaches. I've never been, but wifey and I plan to visit sometime in August.

we stayed there at new year and it was great - definitely top of the list if we go to cha-am.

be good to hear from someone of the Hua Hin/western side of the gulf; we're north of Chanthaburi - heading towards Rayong; right now the beaches are not at their best - rainfall, rivers and silt have added a brown tinge to this stretch of coastline, in addition the waves are not at all suitable for young children.

The usually peaceful and safe Chao Lao beach had 'no swimming' signs out on the weekend.

Still OK for swimming if you choose carefully - we went yesterday - but not the picturesque white sand/blue water we get for much of the year.

Snorkelling would be 'out' the clarity/visibility would be extremely poor.

Ao kiu nia, Ko samet if money is no issue. Ao Phrao is nice too. Also the east end of Hat saikaew( if your looking out to sea)

Samet beaches are IMO the best around apart from down south.
