Help Restoring Thailand Maps

Featured Replies

Hi,

In August 2010 I went to the ESRI office in Bangkok and purchased The Thailand Street Map v10.1 for a Garmin Nuvi 1350. I used the maps throughout Thailand from Aug-December with no problems, storing lots of favorites (and their GPS coordinates). In Bangkok, the ESRI office installed a micro SD card with the Thai maps (software, etc). So far so good...

I returned home to the USA and updated (using the web updater service from Garmin on my computer) my USA maps - and have used this 1350 Nuvi in the USA. I have kept the Micro SD card (with my Thai maps/data) inserted into this Nuvi all along - during updates; making road trips here in the USA etc. I have had no trouble getting anywhere in the USA...

Now that I will be back in Thailand to do research again in August (2011), I was checking to make sure I could pull up my Thailand maps (or favorites) or anything from Thailand - I cannot...big problem.

Can someone help me (provide detailed instructions) for how to restore my Thai maps, favorites and everything else Thai to this Nuvi 1350? I still have the micro SD card inserted - and when I examine it using Windows Explorer, it seems to have all my Thai data...

Any advice appreciated!

Do you have Mapsource?? you can see if the map is usable there. I have Basecamp and use that to see maps. all of my favorates get saved to the garmin not the chip so I makes sure I keep a copy of that seperate on my computer. sorry I am not more help but without seeing it I am lost.

Unfortunately the favorites and waypoints you put in were stored in the GPS and not the memory card. You probably deleted the Thai waypoints. The memory card should work without a problem but I'd guess your favorites are gone unless you saved them in your computer. If you saved them with Mapsource in your computer, it is a simple thing to transfer them back to the GPS.

First set the GPS Mode to "off", then enter the coordinates for Bangkok, or anywhere else in Thailand, and select View Map > Set Location. That will force the GPS to set your car icon to the location in Thailand. If you still have a TSM V10.1 map along with favorites etc. it will show up. As said, you may have overwritten (deleted) everything related to Thailand.

P.S. Make sure that your TSM V10.1 is turned "on", Tools > Settings > Map > Map Info > Select Thailand Street Map.

Thanks so far - but no luck. In my Tools > Settings > Map > Map Info --- I can see three options:

(1) Thailand Street Map v10.1 NT (English) - Exits

(2) Thailand Street Map v10.1 NT (English)

(3) CN North America NT 2011.10

So far it makes no difference whether all the boxes are ticked...or just the Thai map boxes #1 and #2 and the North American box unticked (Interested Observer's "on" suggestion for the Thai maps). Also, I have indeed set the GPS to simulator route (so actual use of satellites is turned off - thank You Interested Observer) - and I just ordered Mapsource from Amazon.com (my goodness, one would think that it would be an electronic download...but no they want to deliver a CD to my home).

If I type in Thai coordinates as a destination (say my friend's lodge, Baan Maka near Kaeng Krachan), I get a Thai map but obviously nothing else happens...and I still cannot pull up my GPS coordinates that I entered for all my Thai locations...

So please keep the suggestions coming...meanwhile I will email the ESRI folks in Bangkok who installed the 10.1 version maps on y Nuvi 1350. The "hotline" supervisor there is:

"Phatraporn Sutathongthai (ESRI.TM)" <[email protected]>

Overall my guess is that once I am back in Thailand and can pick up the correct satellites overhead, then this Nuvi 1350 will magically work again in Thailand - but I want to make sure beforehand if possible.

Thank You everyone so far!

1. With the GPS Mode "off" and simulating a route, enter your friend's lodge coordinates and set the map location.

2. TSM V10.1 should be on the screen with the car icon located at your friend's lodge.

3. Look in Favorites, either your saved locations / GPS coordinates are there or not.

OK Interested Observer - yes the map comes up when I plug-in the Coordinates of Baan Maka. However, as you suggested there is nothing in Favorites. Oh well...looks like I will have to re-learn and re-do everything this year...and since I just ordered Mapsource, I'll know now to enter all important way points there. Thank You ever so much - this does save me a trip to the ESRI office in Bangkok.

Later I'll post a question about Visas...this forum has been a great help from many fine minds - thanks all

You will need to locate a Thailand Street Map V10.1 MapSource compatible map to match your Garmin GPS installed map. MapSource uses a different file format than your Nuvi 1350.
