Yingluck Says She Cannot Stop Red Shirts Bullying Abhisit

Are you sure that the Democrat party is PAD free? According to www.th4u/kasit_piormya.htm , Thailands foreign minister, Mr Kasit Piromya, is an advisor to both the Democrats and the PAD. Furthermore, according to the other English language paper, Mr Kasit (a Democrat Party member), is still waiting to hear whether he will face charges relating to the Suvarnabhumi / Don Mueang aiport closures. (Edition of 21 June 2011, p4). Perhaps the Democrats didn't take PAD members onto their party list, because they were already there.

The correct link is http://www.th4u.com/kasit_piromya.htm

"On 20 December 2008, PM Abhisit Vejjajiva appointed Kasit as Foreign Minister. Prior to the appointment, Kasit was not a sitting member of the parliament."

Has Kasit been elected since then?

Mme. Yingluck?

Did she get French citizenship or something? When did, all of sudden, she become Madame Yingluck?

But, if we're going to use French forms of address and since she's not legally married, shouldn't she be addressed as Mademoiselle (abbreviated as Mlle) Yingluck?

I had a proper upbringing and did address older women as Madam or Madame. It is a polite address. French is not my mother tongue, but I do some of my work is in French so by force of habit I use Madame instead of Madam. I am also obliged to refer to Germans as Herr Dr. lest there be a hissy fit. Some of us do not work in a milieu where colleagues and clients are addressed as dude, or buddy Should I ever open a refreshment stand on the Gulf Coast of the USA, I would certainly amend my expressions to Yo man or Hun.

I trust this explanation satisfies you.

Oops got my "o"s and my "r"s mixed up.....not for the first time. ;)

Mr Kasit has not been elected, to the best of my knowledge. He was, however, a party list candidate for the Democrats in the 2006 election. Furthermore, according to the Democratic party's facebook page, (www.facebook.com/pages/Democratic-Party/10998109903179), "Numerous party members such as Somkiat Pongpaibul and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kasit Piromya were members of the People's Alliance for Democracy".

Now when I went to school, numerous meant great in number, or many. Elected or not, the Democratic party, by it's own admission is not PAD free.

'address older women'? Better be careful, you may offend some of the 'beautiful, youngish looking Ms. Yingluck' supporters ;)

I only wonder about the 'were members of the PAD' followed by 'is not PAD free'. Are any of those 'numerous party members' still PAD members also?

The key word being "were". Kasit has constantly berated the yellow shirts during their border dispute protests. Somkiat has (I understand) been dumped by the Democrats (or at least been threatened to be dumped (BP article 16/3/11 - "Somkiat draws ire of Suthep, PM")).

PAD was made up of many factions.

Some were purely to be against Thaksin and his puppet governments,

others had much different agendas, like the Santi Asoke factions.

Giving advice is not the same as being a card carrying member.

Being sympathetic to SOME of a groups goals doesn't mean you are directly supporting all of them.

If you want to blame Kasit for associating with PADS do so,

but base it on HIS ACTUAL SPEECHES at PAD rallies,

and not simply guilt by past association. And also note at what point in PADs trajectory did Kasit back away from them. And STOP association with them.

PAD changed drastically and many left it for that reason, or simply because the goals they wanted reached had been met.

Also consider the current speeches of a politician and their actual works. I am not a fan of Kasit, but a big fan of fair play.

It also is quite clear that Kasit and PAD are not close to friends anymore. PAD has gone round the twist and Kasit takes them to task for that.

You can call her by whatever form of address you want to. Just curious as it is so out of the ordinary from what every other poster uses and the Thai norm.

For consistency sake, will you change your use of Mr. Abhisit to M. Abhisit (for Monsieur)?

I address Khun Abhisit as PM Abhisit, short for prime minister which is derived from premier ministre as in the first minister of the government. Until he loses the election he should be addressed as Prime Minister.

Yingluck said she had only heard about the bullying incident yesterday morning, adding that she wanted to see positive election campaigns so Thailand could leave the conflicts behind after a new leader was elected.

She added that she would like to call on all sides to exercise patience and express their feelings by voting on July 3.

So Yingluck says she want a positive campaign and call everyone to wait until the July 3rd to express their opinion through the ballot ... Many members here seem to have missed the phrase and focus on the "I can't tell the red shirts to stop bullying Abhisit".

Maybe she can't tell this because that would further emphasize the link between Puea Thai and the Red shirts movement. Even officialise her link with the red shirts, making her in some way responsible for what they do ... EC is watching and she may not want to be involved with this.

Just my two cents, don't throw too much mud at me...
