Pattaya Local Elections July 10Th

Just read this in the Pattaya Mail: Pattaya voters will choose new city council members for zones 2 and 3 in a special city election July 10.

Does anyone know what areas zones 2 and 3 cover, and if it will mean bar closures? If so that means 4 weekends in a row that the bars will be closed!

1) Four weekends in a row? Where do you get that from?

2) When bars close for Thai or Government reasons we foreigners should respect that. Not complain about it. They don't want Thai people getting drunk on election days etc. Makes sense to me.

3) When bars are closed it's a good time to actually see some real Thailand and other things that Pattaya and surrounding areas has to offer. I understand the holiday goer but you can ALWAYS find a cold one if you need one, just not in the main core.

25/26 June - out of district voting for national election

2/3 July - national election

9/10 July - that would be the one the Op has discovered

16/17 July - Buddhist holidays

^it seems to happen every year that there's 4 weekends in a row that bars are closed. It's 15 & 16 July that's the Buddhist holy days and 17th is a substitution day.

DocW, if you don't think Thais get drunk on election days just stick around, they just buy a bottle of lao khao the day before and enjoy the day off and don't bother voting unless someone in a red shirt pays them.

No it isn't.Every year there are 2 closing days very close to each other in month July but never 4 weekends in a row.

And the 17th is Pattaya marathon too.

According to my calendar:

15 (Friday) Assalha Pucha Day

16 (Saturday) Buddhist Lent Day

18 (Monday) is the substitution day for 16.

17 is not special apart from the marathon.
