Transport Ministry Mulls Suvarnabhumi Airport Check-in Service Improvement

The Transport Ministry is considering an improvement of the service at the Suvarnabhumi Airport by presenting a proposal to the Cabinet this August.

The plan is expected to kick off by the end of this year.

The Transport Ministry's Permanent Secretary Supot Saplom said his ministry is set to propose a Suvarnabhumi Airport passenger check-in improvement plan to the Cabinet in August, in a bid to improve the slow service there.

He explained that the plan encompasses a rise in the number of staff at counter services to 40 positions and the use all counters at the airport.

Customs Department and plant and animal quarantine counters will also be used as part of this plan to accommodate rush hours.

The proposed management scheme also introduces the APIS and APPS systems that can inspect the information of travelers through their boarding passes at the check-in counters of each airline.

What's more, this proposed system is able to identify blacklisted suspects from around the world within three seconds.

Supot expects the new system to be implemented by the end of this year.

What's the point of adding more counters if no one is manning them....it won't help if it takes about 10 mins. to clear a pax...

Perhaps they might also announce, for the umpteenth time over five years, that construction of the new LCC budget-terminal at swampy has actually started, and this time actually mean it ? ! :annoyed:

So its anounced as a "passenger check-in improvement plan".

Great Swampy, you really are making a big effort to improve things.

but all becomes clear:

The real main motive is to be "able to identify blacklisted suspects from around the world within three seconds."

It takes a review and a proposal by the Transport Ministry, then make a formal presentation to the Cabinet to try and improve basic service at the countries largest airport. Where does the Airport Authority enter into the proposal. Does King Power have to be consulted for their approval also? sssssh. Net the combined group will have to fly to Europe and observe the going on there to make the final tweaks.

Airport Authority to Improve Suvarnabhumi Services

The Airports of Thailand is set to implement three measures to improve services and address the problem of overcrowding at the immigration checkpoints at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Transport Ministry Permanent Secretary Supoj Suplom today meets with executives of the Airports of Thailand, or AOT, to discuss solutions to problem of overcrowding at the immigration checkpoints at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Supoj said three resolutions have been adopted at the meeting to improve the slow services.

He explained that the plan covers a rise in the number of staff at all 72 immigration checkpoints by 40 more positions.

He further said that the AOT will rearrange queue lines in passport examination rooms to increase room capacity.

The management plan included installation of the Advance Passenger Information System, or APIS, and Advanced Passenger Processing System, or APPS, that can inspect the information of travelers through their boarding passes at the check-in counter of each airline.

This proposed system is able to identify blacklisted suspects from around the world within three seconds.

Supoj expects the new systems to be implemented at the airport by the end of this year.

He noted that the study conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization, or ICAO, and the International Air Transport Association, or IATA, suggested that Thailand should have Suvarnabhumi Airport as the country's only international airport.

They also proposed the AOT to separate the domestic terminal from the international terminal, saying the separation will increase capacity of the international terminal to as much as 45 million passengers.

Supoj expected that by 2015, both domestic and foreign passengers will use only Suvarnabhumi Airport as a single airport of Bangkok.

He added the AOT plans to use the Don Muang Airport for its six new projects.

Who makes these press releases?

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that room.

Probably only 1 window open. The flies will be queueing up as well.

Yeah, let them in so that they can empty their pockets, but catch them when they check-in on their way out.
