This information is for those going to the U.S. via United/Continental airlines. I just picked up my ticket from BKK to San Francisco and on to Boston and returning from Boston to Chicago to Narita and then to BKK. United/Continental had the best fare I could find here in BKK at $1560 for a short notice and short stay return flight fare. (I leave 8 July and return 16 July).

Maybe you know that United Airlines and Continental Airlines merged and began offering joint flights on the 1st of June 2011. At the present time they offer the best price from the east coast of the U.S. to Bkk at least for an economy fare. It is a back-of-the-plane no refund fare...so be sure you want that if you do choose it.

When I picked up my ticket the attendent made sure I knew that this fare was a special discount fare which will end in July, to promote the addition of Continental's routes to Untied's normal routes.

In August the fare will be raised by 4000 Baht for the same route. So the ticket I just booked for 46,600 baht will be 50,660 baht (aproximately) in August.

Anyone booking a United/Continental flight after July should expect there to be porportional fare hikes in August on United/Continental Asia to the U.S. fares.

I flew them in May and got a rate of around $1200 to Vegas. Due to problems in Japan, we got moved around a bit and ended up on ANA...still a good airline.

I'm surprised to see them having this "sale" now, because they are not operating under a joint operating certificate. They are still two distinct and separate airlines at this time. And unless they are operating differently here in Thailand because they are outside the USA, they normally will not announce future price changes (i.e. the price goes up to 50,660 baht on August 1st.)

I would expect fares to remain the same, or even drop slightly. Once we're through August, it is a slower traffic time for US carriers. And fuel prices seem to be on a slight decline now.

UAL/BKK infrequently have fare sales and special promotions, ex-BKK to NRT and the U.S. They used to have a monthly newsletter in the office which announced these promotions, and sometimes on the ual.co.th website. Typically they were just a SKLT fare bucket that might have been zeroed out for any channel except the local office, so not a sale per se.

I was able to meet/slightly beat the OPs price on ual.com, same segments/date: 44,470* but that was likely due to currency fluctuations. Fare bucket is K. Season: PERMITTED 01JUL 11 THROUGH 31JUL 11 ON THE OUTBOUND TRANSPACIFIC SECTOR.

We are also in High season until Labor Day (change to Shoulder season, and then Low season) so fares are high, except this fare seems to have a promotional seasonal application, and the OP is traveling on a Fri and Sun (W) so slightly higher than Mon-Thu (X).
