Hi, can anyone give me some updated advice.

I am looking to spend a few days on Samui in late August and have worked out the following.

Air Asia from Bangkok to Surat Thani arriving 15.25, bus from airport to ferry, then ferry to the island and on arrival bus/taxi etc to probably Chaweng.

Has anyone done this recently? And can advise if firstly, the flight arrival time will allow me enough time to get to the ferry,

How easy is it to get from the airport to the ferry and which would be the best ferry port to depart from.

I know the flight price but can anyone update me on transport costs from the airport to the island (I read somewhere that there is a booth in the airport that sells combined coach/ferry tickets, is this correct?)If so where and how much.

Any help or information would be much appreciated.

Ps the search only shows posts from 2009

Thanks

The bus from the airport to Donsak where you catch the ferry takes around 90 mins. It will leave shortly after your flight arrives. The last ferry is at 7pm but you should make the 5pm ferry.

Not sure the updated fares but in total shouldn't be more than 400 Baht for both the ferry and bus. The ferry takes around 90 mins and drops you in Nathon....you can take a taxi from there to Chaweng for around 400 Baht or a shared minivan for around 100 Baht I would guess.

You will catch the 6pm ferry to arrive at Nathon at 7.30pm. There is a ticket office at the airport. Combo ticket is 350 baht.

Good point.....I took a taxi last time. biggrin.gif

Why bother with the bus and ferry and loss of time?

The Air Asia fare is roughly 2000 baht before you add on luggage and all the air asia fees. Add in the ferry/bus at 400 baht

Bangkok Airways BKK-USM raanges from 3200 to 4500 baht.

Surely, the convenience factor, the bypass of the bus and ferry journey and the time factor is worth an additional 1000-2000 baht?

Koh Samui has a beautiful efficient airport. Bangkok Airways is considered one of the finest regional carriers. Consider that option.

Bangkok Airways for 2 people is 12940 baht

Air Asia (with luggage, taxes, fees etc) for two people 6681 baht

even allowing for the ferry bus etc, I can put up with a lot for a 5/6000 baht saving.Basically, thats my hotel paid for.

I have travelled before with BA and like them but not at that price.

Does Bangkok air ever have specials to Samui? I have been checking out there page for months now and they have never have the web promotion price available.

I have heard that they own the airport in Samui, so Monopoly maybe?!?

yes Anton, thats correct - same is what I've heard as well - they hardly have it anywhere close to the rpice of the surat thani + ferry combo price - its usually double of what it would cost you and hence for my travel next week - i too plan on taking the bus+ferry combo and would appreciate any info on the same to maximise on time and a hassel free ride.

– on reaching bkk i have a connecting flight to Surat thani, now once i arrive in surat thani i need to take the bus+ferry route foronward to koh samui..My apprehensionis that at quite a few places i am reading that it might take 7 -8 hours inreality from surat thani to samui even though the actual distance is only 3-4 hours.

I do understandit will depend upon the ferry timings..

The lomprayh departuretiming is at 2 pm from Surat thani (don sak) – so considering that I arrive atST at 11 am, does it not give me enough time to reach don sak from ST airport? Also is the time mentioned on the Lomprayh website of 2 pm of the ferry or their bus service from airport?

Lomprayh has aferry only at 2 pm , however seatran states it has a ferry every one hourthough i understand lomprayh would take half the time than what seatran would?

How much would acab cost from ST airport terminal to the pier considering we are two of us with3 bags...

This is the only confusing part of my trip left towork out – rest is sorted! Your advice will be deeply appreciated..Cheers

Bangkok Air have a monopoly on Samui flights yes. Deals do happen. I was able to get return in June to Bangkok for under 4500 Baht this way but these deals only happen in low season and not widely advertised.

You should read the links above etc but anyway the bus leaves directly outside. Ferries go to Samui every hour until 7pm. The journey from the airport to Donsak ferry port is direct and takes 1.5 hours. The ferry takes 1.5 hours. Work it out.

No way will it take you 8 hours. There are taxis available but if you can afford the price of around 1000+ Baht maybe just fly Bangkok Airways direct.

Edit: Sorry I see your point. Just take the Seatran ferry...forget the Lomprayah one not wortth the hassle.

Dear Smokie - is there any way by which i can buy these tics before hand or would you say i should but it once i arrive at ST airport?

like lomprayh does seatran offer combo journey tics of bus+ferry or I would need to do both these independently?

Thanks again!

Just pay it as you go. Easy....don't worry about it. 95% of the people on your flight will be going in exactly the same direction.

As Smokie said, very easy.
